Skills that Thrill: Nnamdi Who?

The city of brotherly love splashed around in Free Agency this offseason and defeated the Washington Redskins and New York Jets in the offseason-pseudo-super-awesome-bowl.  The Eagles snuck into the free agency finals like America's favorite ugly 7-footer and his band of wily vets, snatching the prize from the obvious favorites.  The high powered Eagle offense was complimented by a seemingly equally powerful defense when the team signed prized free agent Nnamdi Asomugha, FA DT/DE Cullen Jenkins, FA DE Jason Babin, and traded Kevin Kolb for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2nd round pick.  (Also read that TE Donald Lee was added to the offense).

The media storm is pouring down love on Philadelphia, and the Packers are no longer being considered the team to beat in the NFC by many...

...but not this guy.  This is what Finley calls practice?

Jermichael Finley should be considered the biggest offseason acquisition by any team.

Star-divide

Also in a very slightly related note, first round talent 2nd round steal Randall Cobb is looking impressive at camp.  Drawing attention from ESPN's resident raging Viking fan, Kevin Seifert.  In that article Kevin points out another impressive tid-bit on Cobb: he's not even 21 yet.  I hope this means he'll have long and productive career in Green Bay.

Regarding Seifert

I think he’s actually been on the Pack’s jock the last couple years.

All is vanity.

by levnclf on Aug 2, 2011 9:37 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

We're just been too good for him to deny

…while the Vikings have poetically fallen off the face of the earth.

by StephanL on Aug 2, 2011 11:27 AM CDT up reply actions

Seifert

I started out really not liking him. Seemed too much the vikes homer. But as I’ve continued to check his blog periodically, I’ve found him to be more ambiguous w/ his loyalties. Used to be obvious to me he was vikes homer, but I don’t see that anymore. Might be the change of fortunes for the teams, IDK, but I actually make it a point to check in on him regularly now. He’s gotten much better, IMO.

You've been Stroh'd™!!!

Most obnoxious Vikings fans I know

… have been much more hesitant to spill out their loyalties too. And to be fair, my opinion of Viking fans has changed also: their franchise is laughable and they’re fans are being put through some tough times. I don’t have any sympathy, being a Packer fan living in MN during the Favre fiasco and consequent heartbreak season for Packers fans, but I have mercy. I don’t rub the Packers Superbowl in TOO hard, and usually find some encouraging things to say about that helpless wreck of a team. I try to stay classy, even though I wasn’t treated that way while the Vikings were successful.

by TrevorR on Aug 2, 2011 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Barkley dominated in Barcelona for that Dream Team

That team was probably the best assembled and most dominating team of any sport of all time. Mark it.

As for our Packers—I don’t understand how the Packers aren’t the NFC favorites. They won the Super Bowl with an unheard of number of injuries, including more injuries of key guys during the actual game. Our starting RB and TE were out for heaven’s sake, and we lost Woodson during the game (probably the only thing that prevented a blowout for the Steelers) If anything, we overachieved last year- we only showed half our hand and are coming back fully loaded and ready to repeat.
The Falcons will be dangerous, sure. Tampa could be good, but they need some playoff experience. And the Eagles—well, I wouldn’t be making them championship trophies just yet.

Oh there’s not doubt about it being the most dominating team…I guess in hindsight, Barley was pretty damn good for those teams, I just don’t think of him in general being on the level of even being mentioned in the same sentence as Jordan…especially when Bird and Magic are on the team.

Yeah, I think Barkley's late career injuries and constant weight battles

make us forget he was pretty good in his day. He led the 1992 Dream Team in points. By this point Bird and Johnson were at the tail end of their careers- Barkley, Malone and Jordan were the main scorers.

At least thats what I remember. I don’t know when he had the surgery, but its generally a year to regain speed and explosiveness. Smith could be OK as a slot WR, but he’s gonna have trouble getting seperation from CB’s if he is less than a year removed from surgery.
