It's not a really short week for the Green Bay Packers, but it seems like it with only two practices left in the preseason before the final preseason game against the Chiefs on Thursday night. Here's a look at the week ahead.
A couple more players should be released before Tuesday. The Packers are at 83 players after they released three on Sunday. It's possible that a player or two could be placed on I.R. and unfortunately LB Frank Zombo is one of those candidates. I still think they'll release three players before putting an end to Zombo's season.
Which wide receiver do you think will suffer the next knee bruise? According to Packers.com, WR Randall Cobb returned on Sunday from his knee bruise, but WR James Jones suffered one on the same day in practice. Here's the rest of the injury report from Packers.com:
Undrafted rookie wide receiver Shaky Smithson also returned to practice, but defensive backs Nick Collins (back) and Josh Gordy (shoulder), wide receiver Jordy Nelson (bruised knee) and tight end Jermichael Finley (sprained ankle) did not practice.
We should not expect to see much of the starters on Thursday. Maybe they'll play one series, but I don't expect LT Chad Clifton or CB Charles Woodson will play at all. It'll be a game for the backups to make their case for a roster spot. There's always a surprise or two, but the guys who play well in the final preseason game, and played well at some other point during the preseason, should be the players who make the team.
