Packers at Panthers: Pre-Game Injury Report

The Green Bay Packers usually have more players listed on the injury report than their opponent, and this week is no exception. The Panthers only have one player likely to miss the game, starting RT Jeff Otah, but his absence might create a big opportunity for the Packers. An undrafted rookie is expected to start in his place.

The Packers don't have a question mark as big as the Panthers right tackle, but they will be without three starters on defense. And very promising rookie LB Vic So'oto will miss his second straight game due to a back injury.

Starting LB Frank Zombo and DE Mike Neal have been out for a while now, and remain out again this week. Their absences went largely unnoticed against the Saints because LB Erik Walden and DE Jarius Wynn played very well in their places.

The Packers secondary struggled against the Saints, and they should be without starting CB Tramon Williams, who suffered a shoulder strain last week. He's listed as questionable, and his return is possible, but highly unlikely since he didn't practice at all during the week.

The big problem is his replacement: CB Jarrett Bush, a player the coaches love and the fans hate (for good reason). QB Cam Newton had a lot of success on deep passes along the sidelines against the Cardinals, and that should be where Bush will play most of the game. Bush occasionally surprises me, he did intercept a pass in the Super Bowl, so the best I can say is cross our fingers and hope for the best.

The rest of the players listed on the injury report should play (except for rookie RB Alex Green, but he only played on special teams against the Saints). The entire injury report is after the jump.

Couple things...

I wouldn’t say Zombo wasnt the starter. He and Walden were in competition in training camp and last I heard Walden was the leading candidate as the starter before Zombo went down. Bush is gonna be the slot CB if Tramon is out. They will move Wood outside and use Bush in the slot in this instance. It also wouldnt surprise me if Wood and Bush are used to cover Olsen and Shockey, and use Shields on Smth w/ help over the top.

Yeah, they need to keep Bush in zone coverage on the inside, cause every time he’s in man, the minute he turns his back to the QB he gets lost.

I don't think that the majority of Packer fans hate Jarrett Bush anymore.

He’s been getting steadily better for awhile now. “Hate” is now too strong a word. “Apprehensive”? Sure. People don’t completely trust him, but… he’s comin’ around, and so are we.

You missed a key Panther player...

Jon Beeson is out for the season.

One little thing

Bush isn’t going to “replace” Tramon, Shields will move up into his spot and Bush will get the nickel assignment (and Lee in the dime). If the panthers had a more prolific group of wide receivers I could see this being a pretty big deal, but something tells me with them mainly having to pay extra attention to Steve Smith and somebody like Walden matched up on Greg Olsen, they should be OK, unless Cam goes all super-human for a second week in a row.

Frankly, I think they’re going to be so worried about Clay demolishing their rookie right tackle that they’re going to have to chip him with a TE or a running back, we won’t see a lot of 3 and 4 wide receiver sets like we did with New Orleans last week.

And for God’s sake can we get off of Jarret Bush’s jock finally? He’s not a great cover corner and has trouble playing the ball, but this team could do a helluva lot worse.

So get off his jock…..

but remain within fondling distance?

That is also a good indicator!

But it means you read my post with possible confusion until you realized it. ;)

Then again, all my posts cause confusion so it’s not really any surprise.

Davon House

Is listed as probable for the game. I only got to see one preseason game, but I did read some favorable right ups of House. He’s listed as 3rd RCB, but any chance he gets more play time than Lee or Bush?

IOW, how did he look in preseason? Better than Bush/Lee? Or is his spot on the depth chart an accurate reflection of his talent at this point?

Whitt says not yet.

Whitt the CB coach likes what he sees from House and he’s progressing, but isn’t ready for playing time yet due to missing so much of camp to injuries. Probably mid season before House sees much time on D. Whitt said he just doesn’t know the D well enough yet.

Thanks

But it doesn’t matter now, House and Williams are out.
