Mike McCarthy On Injuries To Ryan Grant and Bryan Bulaga
According to the Press-Gazette, Mike McCarthy discussed the following injuries from the Green Bay Packers game against the Bears.
RT Bryan Bulaga suffered a knee sprain and bruise. It's not serious, but they'll have to see how his recovery goes this week. I'm expecting he'll miss a game or two, similar to the recent shoulder bruise suffered by CB Tramon Williams.
RB Ryan Grant had a kidney bruise and he'll be reevaluated later this week. I've got no idea about this one, or if it will keep him out at all. Too bad for Grant, who had his best game of the season on Sunday. He'd been outplayed by James Starks in their first two games.
LB Brad Jones had a hamstring strain. He's playing mostly on special teams, but shows up on defense from time-to-time, though he only has 4 tackles on the season. Since he finished the game with the injury, it sounds like he'll be available next Sunday.

Bruised Kidneys Hurt
I took a knee to the kidney in a college football game. It felt like a white-hot knife sticking into my side. I couldn’t even walk straight, much less play. Mine was fairly serious and I missed 4 weeks. Let’s hope Grant’s isn’t that bad.
great news on Bulaga
we can handle some injuries to other players/positions on the team by covering them up, but a big hit on the O-Line would be bad news. Newhouse looked competent, but Bulaga is the RT/LT of the future – so good to hear it’s not major

The good news is that the injury came at our tackles
Right now that’s where the depth is on the o-line. If Sitton or Wells had this injury we would all be singing a VERY different tune. The difference between Newhouse or Sherrod coming off the bench and taking snaps is a different world from watching EDS try and hold his ground.

I'm still confident
That Newhouse, Sherrod, or EDS would be able to step right in at OG and fill in nicely. It will get concerning though if we get another injury while Bulaga is out for the time being though…I’m sure TT has his eyes on a couple guys right now though.
One game at a time...
Well, a knee sprain could be pretty serious, actually.
A ligament sprain is actually a partial tear. It’s not as serious because it’s not a complete tear, so blood is still flowing, and the ligament can repair itself, making surgery unnecessary. But the self-repair can take several weeks, and the major prescription is rest. I’ve had two of these (in addition to a complete ACL tear, which required surgical reconstruction and a lot of rehab). Bulaga is young so maybe he’s back in form in a few weeks, but in my 30s, it took me about 6 weeks, and I wasn’t doing anything so challenging as playing tackle in the NFL. In the meantime, pushing it too hard can turn a partial tear into a complete tear, in which case he’s done for the season.
Of course, “partial tear” can mean anything from 1% to 99%. All we know is that it’s not zero or complete. How long the recovery will take depends on how far it tore.
Depends..
If its the ACL that is sprained that is true, The MCL however is a much quicker and not nearly as risky a recovery. No medical expert and don’t expect Buluga to play until the bye, but if its a minor MCL sprain and a bruise then he could suck it up and wouldn’t really risk more damage from what I understand. Again which may not be much
any torn ligament
Is at a much greater risk of further damage and rupture. The problem is that once a ligament is injured, the joint losses some stability and it more easily ruptured. It just doesn’t have the strenght to withstand nearly as much strain. THe MCL is easier to recover from, becuz it isn’t season ending and rarely requires surgery, but it still in a weakened state making it easier to sustain further damage.

Newhouse
looked good at times during the preseason and showed he’s no slouch when the games count. As for Grant, I saw him go down to his knees (which I assume is when he got his kidney bruised) but he did return and was laughing on the sideline. Hopefully those are good signs and he’s not sidelined for too long.
Starks
The guy was due for a fumble and a bad game. I’m just pleased it came in a win and Grant picked up the slack, although it did seem like Grant was running through truck size holes and Starks got none. Grant still has gas in the tank, and is a great option while Starks matures. I hope he’s not out long and stays relatively healthy all season, because he’s a good, experienced, solid option at RB.

I always worry about our young guys when they play the Bears...
cause those are the ones that seem to get picked on for turnovers. The Bears always do that very well. Take advantage of the young guys and loose ball carrying.

We've got to stop giving the ball to James's
JJ last year, Starks this year. They must really, really hate the name James for some reason…

it seemed that way because Grant was making the right cuts and hitting the hole aggressively
he showed superior vision, whereas Starks was indecisive and kept hesitating and dancing at the line

He's a gamer
As is Briggs. Briggs has always shown up against the Packers, ever since he was a rookie.
That was a spectacular play by Urlacher
but a horrific play by Rodgers. He just let that one hang in the air right where Urlacher could grab it.

Yeah, I know Finley was a beast yesterday...
but Rodgers started to look like he was forcing it to him. I don’t like that idea.

I think that was just a poor throw.
Finley wasn’t wide open, but he had some room. Urlacher just undercut the route and made a play on a bad pass. The read didn’t seem terrible to me, but it was a poor throw.
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
Didn’t look like he ever saw him to me. Seemed like he thought Urlacher bailed into the middle.

we expect better
from Arodg, he needed to pump fake or put some touch on that throw. I think after 3 TDs he thought J’mike was unstoppable. Urlacher barely got to the ball and fell down cuz he was off balance. It’s good to know the Pack can have an off game and still come through.

Sure looked like a great play end of story
Rodgers was anticipating which has its downsides
I'm sorry, but "great play end of story" does NOT involve Aaron Rodgers throwing an interception.

Merely crediting a great linebacker making a great play
It happens. There are times when the offensive player is not ‘guilty’ of anything.
If you want to hold Rodgers accountable have at it. We disagree. I am hopeful this is not Daily Norseman where disagreement leads to banning.

My head hurts.
I already told you! I deal with the god damn receivers so the linebackers don’t have to! I have coverage skills; I’m good at covering people! Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!
I think he was hearing voices.
Maybe APC was his next stop after DN?

Whoa, whoa, whoa
It’s just my opinion, dude. It WAS a great play by Urlacher and a horrible play by Rodgers. What part of that don’t you understand?

I wouldn't say horrific play
Rodgers read blitz, and Urlacher dropped into coverage. Finley was the hot read and, well, Urlacher baited him. Just a great play by the MLB.
What do folks think of the comments suggesting Thompson call the Titans about Jones?
With their best WR out for the year and all
i like it
we could easily get a couple of draft picks for him, maybe even a 3rd rounder

Are there rumors of this?
I don’t think he will but I wouldn’t hate the move depending on what they get. I just don’t think TT has any thought of trading a guy he went out and re-signed in the offseason. I think he has a plan for JJ in the future.

trade for Jones
Wouldn’t surprise me much… Thompson only signed him after the market for WR got used up and Jones was left w/o many/any offers. Thompson seemed willing to let Jones walk in FA. Jones just happened to hit FA when there were a ton of WR available and not enough teams looking for them. I don’t expect Thompson is soliciting offers, but I think he would listen if someone made a good one.
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
What could we get for JJ though?
Last year, we might have got a 6th or 7th round draft pick at least. From what I’ve seen of JJ this year, hell, we’ll be lucky to get a gallon of Gatorade and a few Sharpies for Mike McCarthy.

I don’t think his stock has necessarily dropped at all. I think the fact that his time has increased has more to say about our talent at WR than it does about Jones talent.

tend to agree...
I don’t see a deal happening, cuz I don’t think the market is there for Jones to command much in trade compensation. THompson got him signed for a relative bargain, and is much more likely to keep him, than trade. His trade value has suffered a little IMO. The fact he hasn’t been as involved in the Offense, and being passed by Nelson on the depth chart probably lowers his value in the eyes of other teams, to the point that Thompson won’t be interesting in what they are offering.
You've been Stroh'd™!!!
Well now, lets not understate the value of those sharpies....
they run out quickly when used to write on your skin.

Glad to hear Grant not so serious injury-wise
As far as Bulaga, we might be able to sit him next week, but hopefully he’ll return against Atlanta if it’s not a tear on his ACL.
