The Steelers cut undrafted F/A RB John Clay. It makes me wonder. Why does many of Wisconsin's RB's have strong college careers, but fail to transform this into a professional career?
Ron Dayne - Started off to a great start as "Thunder and Lightning", but fell off quickly.
Michael Bennett - Has had a mediocre career in the NFL, Currently with the Raiders, and is at best the 3rd or 4th string RB.
Anthony Davis - Last I heard he was playing in Canada, and hadn't made a team in the NFL.
John Clay - who knows.
It might just be me, but does it seem that Barry Alvarez and Co. pummeled their RB's into the ground in order to win? I have this thought in my mind that a UW runningback goes through enough torture in their 4 year career at Wisconsin to equate to 6 or 7 years in the NFL. By the time the UW RB is out of college, they have the body of a 27-28 year old, and only really have 2-3 years ahead of them.
I know we're considered OLine U in some places, becuase of our ability to grow fantastic pro players, Chris Chambers has had a good career, now winding down, Lee Evans has been good in a bad place, and others, but RB's seem to be washed up before they get to the pros. I just hope that the newest crop of guys won't get beaten into the ground by our coach.
