Second Half Open Thread: Packers Leading The Lions

The Green Bay Packers weren't supposed to win since all their starters are benched. It's been kind of ugly, but Matt Flynn has three TD passes at halftime and the Lions aren't taking advantage of this situation. Two touchdown passes to Jordy Nelson too. Lions start the second half with the ball.

Packers 24, Lions 19.

You know what is interesting about a day like today? Matt Flynn and Mark Sanchez are both starting today. Mark Sanchez was taken sixth overall three years ago, Matt Flynn was taking in the 7th round four years ago, and Matt Flynn might have Mark Sanchez’s job next year.

Matt Flynn is wayyyyyyy better than Mark Sanchez

no comparison between the two

football does not build character, it reveals character.

by sheehan on Jan 1, 2012 2:08 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed.

But the problem is the debate happens because Sanchez sucks rather then Flynn being good; I’d try to compare him to someone like… Kyle Orton or Matt Cassell.

by Cronus on Jan 1, 2012 2:10 PM CST up reply actions

yeah those two are at least decent

though I think Flynn will ultimately be significantly better than either.

I think he’ll have a career similar to that of Matt Hasselbeck

Time for drafting teams to learn

that USC quarterbacks are not all that. Exhibits A-C: Sanchez, Leinart, Booty. Palmer is the only recent USC QB with any semblance of success. Beware of Barkley.

Happy Virginian, Sconnie for life.

by sheehan on Jan 1, 2012 2:13 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think so, personally

he doesn’t have an NFL arm, he’s Chad Pennington at best IMO

football does not build character, it reveals character.

by sheehan on Jan 1, 2012 2:15 PM CST up reply actions

Disagree.

I am not a big USC fan, but he has a better arm in terms of strength than the others coming from USC.

He has good pocket presence and technique. Something I haven’t seen with Sanchez or Leinart. He is the most NFL ready of that crop by a lot.

That dog just won't hunt.

by Bush League All Star on Jan 1, 2012 2:19 PM CST up reply actions

are you kidding me? you think he has a better arm than Palmer when he came out?

Palmer was considered to have one of the strongest arms in NFL history when he came out of college. Tommy John surgery has taken a lot of his zip away, but he still has a better arm than Barkley

football does not build character, it reveals character.

by sheehan on Jan 1, 2012 2:21 PM CST up reply actions

He has good arm strength. Not elite arm strength.

He is far more polished than the other QB’s in overall skill set imo than pretty much every QB with the only debate being Palmer.

by Bush League All Star on Jan 1, 2012 2:24 PM CST up reply actions

agree to disagree then

by sheehan on Jan 1, 2012 2:25 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, at the time.

That is because Barkley wasn’t there. I didn’t think Leinart was that great coming out of college. Sanchez as well.

Finish the play. I want my players to do that. What if Pettigrew had held onto it? These guys are played good money to put their bodies on the line. Play all out or don’t play at all, because once you start holding back, you get hurt.

Right. Because the difference between stomping a down linemen after the whistle and making a clean, legal, hard hit is so small.

Dirty teams break rules purposely to injure opponents. I haven’t seen any of that from the packers.

by Fiesta on Jan 1, 2012 3:03 PM CST up reply actions   3 recs

Really?

You thought Suh’s stomp was a glaring attempt at injury? To me it looked like Suh didn’t put much behind the stomp…more like a kick. And on top of it, it wasn’t a hard kick at all. The OLineman didn’t even grab his arm as if it hurt him at all. It was stupid no doubt, but to say it was some sort of monkey stomp is absurd. There was no force behind that at all.

the deep ball to Jones?

if Rodgers is throwing the ball, it wouldn’t have been slightly underthrown, Jones wouldn’t have had to slow down, and thus it probably would have been a touchdown

kinda pissed about it, but if they win the SB it will be fine.

Also posted the question that Cheeseandcorn did below on another thread before I waded through these. Hopefully the voters realize that building the 13-0 record and putting away playoff positioning early is more important that throwing 180 times a game to break records.

The 2005, 2006, and 2010 Bears all were 5-0 against the NFC North going into the final week of the regular season, but on all three occasions, they threw away the final game.
