APC Open Thread #32: Exit Stage Left, Pursued By Justin Smith
Hello, football fans, and welcome to the 24-hour APC Open Thread! Many thanks to Brandon for allowing this silliness.
There are other Open Threads around SBN. Feel free to drop by any of them.
Battle Red Blog, home of the AFC South Eternal Threads. Very welcoming group of people, with quite the mix of Colts, Texans, and the occasional Jags fan. Disgust for the Titans is extremely welcome.
Niners Nation, home of the San Francisco 49ers...
Pride of Detroit Community Open Threads. Division Rivals the Detroit Lions may be, BUT their fanbase is a good group of people. Respect them, and they should respect you. (of course, arodgb may heavily disagree in this regard)
Bleeding Green Nation's OTs.
A bit new to the game, but still there: Revenge of the Birds OTs
Canal Street Chronicles, getting in on the OT action as well
Rules of the thread:
NO POLITICS
NO RELIGION
NO THREATS
NO NAME-CALLING OTHER POSTERS ON THIS BLOG. There w ill be other people who stop by this thread. Yes, this is a Packersblog. Please refrain from trolling others, even virulent fans of rival teams. If you want a trash-talk thread (like the one we had in the Super Bowl), I can make one.
Absolutely NO SAYING YOU'RE THE FIRST PERSON TO POST
Since we've had a little...issue...with people posting NSFW pictures, please keep in mind that some people might well read this thread at work. If you're going to post a picture that might be considered Not Safe For Work in any way, shape, or form, post a link to it instead of embedding it in the comment. That way, nobody gets in trouble.
Please remember that any time you spend on the APCOT's is entirely voluntary. Nobody is forcing you to be here.
If you were one of the people who rec'd the previous open thread to move it to the Recommended FanPosts section, please go back to that previous thread now and un-rec it. That way, the previous thread will move out of that section, and these won't be cluttering APC as much.
With those rules in mind, have fun.
Ouchies.

I hope he does well, mostly because he’s officially not playing for the Cards or Cubs.
Damn
With Prince gone with Detroit, and Bruan out for 50 games and Nyjer Morgan becoming the next Kevin Mitchell (let’s pray his girlfriend does not have a cat), what the fuck is the Brew Crew gonna do?

TL;DR - I'm always behind the guys who do write this stuff up
I don’t know nearly as much about football as I do baseball. I’m learning (and the folks on this site are definitely helping that along), but I fall down in one key area: I know little to nothing about college football and don’t really care to, so the combine is really the first time I generally hear about draftable players. I pay a bit of attention to that, but for the most part, I’m not a draft guy, so it takes me a few regular-season games to get the same roster insight as those who have paid attention have from training camp onward.
Not to mention that the number of interesting stories in football are finite and generally done to death in the first 24 hours after they break. Baseball offers all sorts of fascinating stuff on the fringes that can be fleshed out into a good piece, but (for instance) Terrell Suggs calling Skip Bayless a douchebag was a non-story less than a day after it came out. I like to dig into a story and explore its corners – the massive amount of NFL press coverage out there makes anything I could grab on to redundant almost before it hits my radar.
"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance
"If [Ruth] had [called his shot], I would have knocked him down with the next pitch." -Charlie Root
I can promise you this:
I’ll be doing my part to educate myself and others on draft prospects when that time gets closer. And when I have time.
Until then, here’s your Badger prospect update: QB Russell Wilson, OG Kevin Zeitler, FB Brady Ewing, P Brad Nortman, and LS Kyle Wojta are the Wisconsin players at the Senior Bowl this week.
Zeitler is a devastating in-line run blocker who could go as high as mid-1st round. Wilson is “too short” to play QB in the NFL, but will still get drafted late or picked up as a UDFA because of his athleticism and competitiveness. Ewing is rated among most as the top FB in the draft, Nortman was very consistent over the last four years. I’ve never seen Wojta have a bad snap.
WR Nick Toon was invited too but is sitting out with a foot injury. He’s a big, physical receiver who would probably go in the 3rd round or so based on talent, but injury concerns will likely drop him down a bit.
Author at Acme Packing Company
C Peter Konz is also going to be going in the 1st or 2nd.

"Skip, once again, stop it; Be an analyst; don't be a douchebag."
I'm the same way with college football.
I just…don’t care.
I already told you! I deal with the god damn receivers so the linebackers don’t have to! I have coverage skills; I’m good at covering people! Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!

Their pitching staff is still in decent shape
But you don’t just lose an 8 WAR/year guy and expect that the next guy will step right in. And I will make my usual pre-season prediction that Matt Holliday will fall back to earth this year. One of these times, that’s gonna end up being true. I’ll put them at 85 wins, third in the Central, and missing the playoffs.

Never quite got around to it,
but since it would have been free for me, I meant to rent it, just to see absurd it would be to watch a porno with literally nothing but plot. From what I recall, they had to clean it up to the point that it was actually one of the cleaner R-rated titles we carried. The sex was almost completely removed, and there was almost no explicit language used. The only thing that kept it from being G-rated was the fact that, at one time, it was supposed to have been porn.

And being bombarded by its toxic, circle-jerk sports coverage. Anyone who does swim in that cesspool (sports talk radio, especially) tends to get tunnel vision about the sports world.
One of the nice parts about SBN is its reach and interactivity – people can get called on their myopic BS in ways that traditional sports media do not allow.

I'm actually getting less and less fond of Brewers fans AT MILLER PARK.
I’m from Chicago, so when I go up with a bunch of cubs fans every year, and they get harassed at least as bad as anything I’ve seen at Wrigley, for no reason other than their clothes. I don’t see anything close to that at Lambeau, even when it’s a Bears, Vikings, or Cowboys game, so I can only assume that it’s specific to MP, and the fact that the assholes have decided the Brewers are worth being an asshole over again. Somehow, I don’t think they’ll be there if the Brewers have a string of bad seasons again.
2011: A wasted year
That's strange.
I recall a Cubs-Brewers game at Miller Park in September 2010, where the head guy at the Cubs’ BCB said half the crowd left early in order to watch the Packers take on the Eagles in Philadelphia.
I went to a Cubs-Brewers game at Miller Park in June 2007. The people you describe weren’t there at all, or maybe they were but fell silent early on as the Cubs led 5-0 after 3 innings. In case you were wondering, Jeff Suppan was on the bump for the Brewers that day.

There's too many douchebag bandwagon Brewers fans, that's for sure.
13.
"Skip, once again, stop it; Be an analyst; don't be a douchebag."
That's because for several years when both teams were good, Cubs fans essentially took over Miller Park...
… and some (certainly not all) were complete douche-bags about it. The poster child for that phenomena are the assholes who held up signs that read “Wrigley North”. Bears fans, or really any visiting fans in Lambeau, are generally outnumbered (even the Giants fans were, though they were there in distressing numbers), and thus better behaved. It’s a well known fact among Brewer fans that many of their fellow Brewer fans have decided to make Cubs fans feel as unwelcome as possible when the Cubs are in town. It’s much more deliberate than most anti-social fan behavior is.
And then there’s the fact that many Brewer fans hate the Cubs and Cubs fans in general more than they hate fans of other rival baseball or football teams because, unlike anyone else, the Cubs made real in-roads into Wisconsin for a generation or more. I grew up in central Wisconsin in the 70’s and 80’s when the Cubs were on TV every day and the Brewers were on TV about 3 times per year. Lots of people started rooting for the Cubs for that fact alone, and as a Brewer fan it made me want to puke. That created a lot of bitterness among some Brewer fans which never went away.

Youngsters
The early part of my life had no conflict – the Brewers were my AL team and the Cubs were my NL team – so I’ve essentially always hated the White Sox and Cardinals.
Well, Bud had to go and screw that up, so I had a choice to make. Even though my first MLB game was in Milwaukee County Stadium (versus the Royals in the George Brett years), I still identified with the Cubs more, so I stuck with them.

There are great college sports rivalries all over the country, but few can compare with the intensity of Michigan and Ohio State. The bordering Midwestern states harbor a legendary threshold of hate for one another, the likes of which can even make Red Sox and Yankees fans blush.
Still, what happened to one Ohio native who dared cross state lines recently went beyond any sense of pride or rationality into a nearly scary situation … and may have given motivation to both teams come next November.
As first reported by the Michigan football blog Tremendous and It’s Always Sunny in Detroit, Michigan commitment Kyle Kalis received numerous threats from Ohio State fans after he committed to play for the Wolverines this fall. In fact, the threats were explicit and incredibly brazen, with more than one fan chiming in to say they hoped the offensive lineman tore his ACL.

I’m increasingly convinced that many “reality” shows should be used as tests to determine which part of the populace should be sterilized.

Recently read that Mike Sherman was a candidate for the Bucs HC position. What are your thoughts on him?
I remember him as a failure at GM, but as a HC I’m a bit blurry. I remember a lot of conservative plays on 3rd and long and I don’t think he had control of the locker room with Favre in there.
I already told you! I deal with the god damn receivers so the linebackers don’t have to! I have coverage skills; I’m good at covering people! Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!
As I see a report 30 minutes after this post that they hired someone else. Hah.

That's serious stuff right there, guys.
Not to be laughed at. While at our lake property in Northern WI, my Dad and I actually got chased by a HERD of cows while exploring a field belonging to a friend. It finally ended after a quarter-mile sprint when we made it to the main road.

2011: A wasted year
This story reminds me of a time
In early 2006, when I was still in college, I was running a six-mile race in a small town in Vermont. About a mile into the race, I ran by a horse farm. I chanced a glance at the horses there. To say they were excited would have been an understatement. They were jumping and running around in circles. I continued on in the race.
About five minutes later, I heard this bizarre thundering noise behind me. I had no idea what was causing it, but I knew instinctively that it wasn’t runners. I kept looking behind me to see what was going on, and, finally, I saw what was making the noise and jumped so badly that I nearly ended up on the moon.
Three horses were coming at me going at a full gallop. I was approaching a “T” intersection and would be turning to the right, so I figured I would hide on the inside of the turn. No chance. They blew by me at full speed, passing within arm’s reach of my left side. Since there was a long uphill after the turn, I had a good view of the runners ahead of me. People were turning in some cases 90 degrees to get out of the way of the horses, who were still going full speed at the top of the hill.
Then I heard some clomping, and another horse went by me. He was going much more slowly, so I didn’t worry about getting trampled. I actually passed him on the hill. (that’s me on the left in the green shorts and white shirt). I stayed ahead of him for a while, including the two-mile mark near the top of the hill.
He eventually got in front of me again. I later saw him when he was captured during the day. It was like a horse race.
The next year, my college cross-country coach referenced the “running of the horses” when trying to get people to run in this race. Even now, I still laugh when I think about that day in April 2006. But yes, it is scary when an animal, especially one larger and stronger than you, is coming at you at full speed. I’ll never forget how scared I was when I first saw the horses that were racing at full gallop towards me.

It’s kind of like a ‘Best of’ comments made on APC game threads/recaps.
Week 1 vs New Orleans:
The rare positive comment from TBC!
great win
offense looked great, Cobb is electrifying. hoping Tramon is okay, Drew Brees is a great QB, he was gonna get his, not worried about the D other than the poor tackling, which will be corrected. Wynn and Raji were beasts all night. Really wish MM would use the run more, especially with Starks when it’s second and short. overall, can’t be mad, great win against one of the best teams in the NFL
VCF telling it like it is, son.
The Packers won and are 1-0 this season. It’s great to have that first win before anyone else plays.
GMan83201 says the Saints could very well be the best team in the NFL, and NorthStarr replies with, “Fuck off with that noise, boy!” (Okay, no he didn’t. But he did say this…)
FTFY The Saints could very well be the best team of the other 31 in the NFL
Nels Winkler summed up pretty much every Packer fans’ feelings on the A.J. Hawk “pass interference” call on Darren Sproles.
AJ’s PI call at the end was a joke He landed on top of the guy… after he knocked the ball out of the air.
BLAS points out the awesomeness that are Green Bay Packer fans.
This was pretty cool. Didn’t know they did this. Didn’t watch until gametime.

It’s a professional graphic artists comments and rankings of NHL team logos (obviously), and his opinion on why they’re crap or awesome for logos, and compares to previous iterations in some cases for how they’re improved/hurt by updates. He talks about other things on there too, big that’s his major series that he’s doing at the moment. It’s pretty neat, and worth checking out. SPOILER: the Pacific Division does not fare well. The Atlantic and Central do well though.

So has anyone downloaded the Twisted Metal demo for ps3?
Impressions? I had forgot it released yesterday and was only at about 20% before going to bed last night. So will have to finish it up tonight.

I'm planning on it.
Just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I don’t know that my hopes are very high for it though.

Why not?
I just ask because I loved the old TM games, with Black being the last one I played. I barely got a ps3 last month, but when I saw this was releasing this month, I got extremely hyped for it.

I'm just wondering if it's all that different
My female gamer friends have taken the expected stance and told me that this is a must-do. Apparently the voice acting is also better?
If you have the Kasumi pack you get a dress, so there's that.
Also, I used my female Shephard to do the cruel, calculated character.

Why will I wait? Well, if I brought my 360 to campus, my GPA would take a sharp turn for the worse and my attendance would drop. It’s not a temptation I can afford until Spring Break.

My first was the most recent Assassin’s Creed.
I pre-order just about everything,
even if I’m not planning on picking it up immediately. From what I understand, tax doesn’t apply to any amount paid via pre-order.

It was fucking awesome!
Was laughing nearly the whole time. Except for one guy. He was alright. There was 6 performers total and the whole thing was about 3 hours. But we ended up getting rained in at the venue. A big storm passed by, so we were stuck about another 30 min. before we could leave. And then we were gonna go out originally, but because of the storm, we picked up some food and drank here at home. But they fucked up our order! And big time too. Luckily, it wasn’t that far from my apartment, so we ended up going back to get it fixed and ended up getting it for free. So despite all that crap, it was all worth it cuz it was one awesome show! Damn that was a lot longer than I originally thought! Lol

Bielema seems to suffer from foot-in-mouth syndrome.
With that being said, I’m not thrilled with Meyer’s recruiting success. If the NCAA had not afforded Ohio State the (rather obvious) benefit of two recruiting staffs, I think things would have turned out far, far differently.
It’ll be interesting to see in 3 years where these prospects stand. Meyer had a bunch of 5-Star DT talent languish on his bench at UF or get booted from the Gators entirely. Usually, 4-Star recruits don’t go to Wisconsin, but that means that the Badgers MUST develop the players that they get. It’s extremely rare that you get a 5-Star play
