Mike Sherman Joins Joe Philbin In Miami

Miami Dolphins Set To Hire Offensive and Defensive Coordinators - The Phinsider. As a GM, Mike Sherman left a lot to be desired, and by the time Ted Thompson took over, the Green Bay Packers were old and lacked depth. As a head coach, he led the team to painful playoff losses in 2002, 2003, and 2004. But the Packers offense, especially in 2004 when Ahman Green and Javon Walker were at their best, was a dangerous unit. He knows how to coach a top offensive team.

New Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin has assembled a pretty solid coaching staff. He's known both of his coordinators, Sherman and former Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle, for a long-time, and they've both been successful in the NFL. He's going to have a professional, organized staff around him to rebuild the Dolphins.

He's still got to prove it on the field, but he's gotten off to as a good a start as I could have imagined.

The Sherm returns!

Witness his scouting prowess!

Tremble in your shoes as he confronts your pro bowl defensive linemen!

Cower in his presence of playing overly conservative offense when trailing late in the fourth quarter!

The Sherminator only had Brent Favre... Philbin will get him a QB who'll take care of the ball...

Enter Matt Flynn… Straight off the “Best Performance of any Green Bay Packer QB!” ever!!

: P It’ll only cost them their 1st round pick this year, and 3rd round next year… They’ll jump at the chance! : )

Matt Flynn

I thought he was a free agent if so we won’t get any picks for him.

Compensatory picks, and the quality of the picks depend on how much Flynn plays and how well he plays.

I already told you! I deal with the god damn receivers so the linebackers don’t have to! I have coverage skills; I’m good at covering people! Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!

He’s talking about tagging and trading him which is VERY unlikely to happen.

by the time Ted Thompson took over,

the Packers lacked not only depth, but starters at some positions, as well.

Of course, one starting position we were still solid at for a few more years was ‘Interception Machine’. :)

Is Sherman still going to be there
when the Packers play the Dolphins in 2014?

Naturally, this is presuming that the Mayans are wrong.

For all of Sherman's faults as a head coach

I’m happy for him to get another chance in Miami. Wish him the best

I was disappointed with the lack of hookers but the pancakes were delightful

I’m happy for him to get another chance, too.

Just wish it was with the Bares, Vikings or Lions..

Only if he could be an OC under Dennis Green.

Soon to be heard over the PA system at Dolphins Stadium:

“Number 71 reports eligible.”

Seriously, I don’t know if Kevin Barry is retired at this point, but I’d be surprised if Sherman doesn’t sign him. In fact, I was surprised when he didn’t figure out a way to say that him and Ahman had some college eligibility left so they could be recruited to play for A&M. Sherman just loved that strong-side toss sweep to Ahman with Barry as lead-blocker. …as did we all. I mean, there’s no denying that that was a great play.

No word on whether Sherman plans on signing Ahmad Carroll and B.J. Sander, though. “I tell ya’, they’re good players; they just never got a fair shake, dammit!”

Is he playing for the Nighthawks? I thought he’d be on a couch somewhere by now. I thought about making the joke “Someone should tell Sherman that BJ Sander’s a free agent now before Sherman picks him in the 2nd round.” …or something. I was still working on it.

But, now that I know he plays for the Nighthawks…

This is the conversation that Sherman will have the NHs GM:

Sherman: “I’ll give you a 3rd round pick for BJ Sander, and that’s my final offer.”
NH GM: “What? Um… why would we want a pick in the NFL draft? We’re not an NFL team.”
Sherman: “Okay, fine. You drive a hard bargain. Let’s call it a second rounder then.”
NH GM: “Wtf? …ooookaaay.”
Sherman: “Great. It’s settled then. [yes! yes! yes!] Just you make sure to have him on the next plane. Good day to you.”

No, I don't know if he's playing anywhere in the UFL

Maybe a joke to insult him was actually a compliment, considering it implied he had a job.

Don't forget Jamal Reynolds!

Man those early 00s Packers defenders were baaaaaadd.. Good thing we had KGB and Al Harris, at least!

by vitaminx on Jan 29, 2012 2:09 AM CST up reply actions

Reynolds

Its debatable whether thats a Wolf or Sherman pick. I’ve always maintained that it was a Sherman pick, since Wolf had already announced his retirement and they had already named Sherman as his replacement. Wolf stuck around thru the draft that year to help Sherman who was inexperience running the draft. Wolf did have his share of 1st rd misses, but I don’t think Reynolds was one of them. IMO, that was all Sherman since he was the guy that had to live w/ the pick, not Wolf!

lets call it a joint effort. I am guessing Wolf advised him during the draft and shared some of his strategies and stuff.

Anyone who drafted Jamal Reynolds had to be hitting a joint.
