Home/Away Opponents for 2012

The NFL has released its official list of home and away opponents for the 2012 season; the official schedule with dates and times will not be released until April. With that said, the following are the teams our Green Bay Packers will be facing...

Home: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans.

Away: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts.

Star-divide

A few observations:

- The potential budding rivalry between Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers continues as the Saints return to face the Packers at Lambeau Field [possible Opening Night matchup, with the Packers celebrating back-to-back Super Bowl titles? ;) ].

- San Francisco is another interesting opponent; their defense looks terrific this year, they have a good running game, and Alex Smith will be in his 2nd year under OC Greg Roman (consistency among the coaching staff has been a problem for SF in recent years).

- The Packers return to MetLife Stadium to take on the Giants; it should be another good game between these clubs.

- We're still 6 wins behind Chicago in the rivalry; 85-91-6. Granted, Aaron is 7-2 against them; we'll make up ground, but I'm still not happy that they have more wins in the series.

I like that we play possibly two of our toughest opponents at home.

Giants and Texans stick out as the two most difficult road games. I know a lot can change for these teams with the draft and free agency, but it’s pretty nice that we get to play the top four teams in this year’s draft five times.

I was thinking the same thing

The away schedule looks like an absolute gift! But the teams you think are going to be easy and the ones you think are going to be tough never work out that way from year to year.

Seahawks are always tough at Home too

but we really lucked out IMO with Saints and 49ers at home..should be another 12+ win season

If the Packers win the Super Bowl again,

I think it’s more likely the NFL would schedule Packers/49ers as the Thursday night opener. Also, I’d much rather they schedule the Saints to come to Lambeau in November or December.

True.

Plus, I’m sure the NFL wouldn’t want a repeat of 2011’s Opening Night matchup.

by mike_o on Jan 3, 2012 1:05 PM CST up reply actions

Why not?

It was a hell of a game, a lot better than last season’s opener as far as entertainment value.

Agree

I doubt they will schedule the same game to open the season twice in a row. I think the 49ers or Lions are the favorite, seeing as how they both made dramatic improvements. Plus, the Lions would make for a good storyline, while the 49ers would pit strength against strength.

Missed going to the season opener this year. Hopefully the Saints go later in the year so I can drive down to see the game. A december game would be awesome. Would be nice to go somewhere warmer.

Rodgers vs. Brees has a chance to become for this decade what Brady vs. Manning was for last decade

both teams just have to continue finishing in the same place in their division two thirds of the time. One can hope.

I see at least 4 potential losses in there.

The Texans will be tough, as will the Giants. Seattle always plays good at home and I see the Saints game as a toss up, especially if its early in the year before weather becomes a factor. The Lions could also be tough in Detroit next year if they quit with the dumb stuff. Either way, I think this schedule is too tough to expect anything better than 13-3, although I will be more than happy to be wrong about that.

but it’s a rivalry game that produces wild results (Look at that, Mark Tauscher just got called for yet another false start!). Anything goes in Chicago, really…

Seeing the schedule early last year made me think the Pack would win 12 of them

Then they go 15-1 narrowly missing going undefeated in the regular season. I’d be willing to bet we don’t have more than 3 losses next year. The Saints and Giants games may be losses as well as maybe an upset loss to Seattle.. we’ll have to see how the free agency and draft pans out too.

From my aspect

I do see at least one of the Lions/Packers games being a Sunday Night or Monday Night game this year, instead of the Vikings (really?). As for other games, if Peyton Manning is back at 100%, the Colts game will NOT be an easy game, and the Texan and Giants games on the road will definitely be challenges for your team. What I think will end up happening for ‘National Games’ will probably be the Lions/Packers (not sure which game), the Saints game, the 49ers game, and probably Bears/Packers (not sure which game for this one either). Throw in either the Texans or Colts as well and you’ll probably be on national TV at least 5 times. Based on this years records, I could see the Packers getting 12 wins (1 loss to Detroit (in Detroit most likely, though would be nice to end the streak), maybe the Texans game, MAYBE the Saints game, if it turns out like what the opener was this year, and maybe the Giants game)

he did look worse last season

but keep in mind, his arm was apparently losing a lot of strength because of his neck injury. If this surgery really fixed that, there’s no reason he couldn’t go back to 2009 form.

And even in 2010 he put that team on his back in Greg Jennings-esque fashion.

I've yelled similar things at my TV a number of times during games

For me at least it’s just the way I am. I get upset, yell about it and move on. There have been a few times this season when we fell behind that I complained about the D. But after swearing a couple of times I calmed down and had faith that they would eventually take the lead and that the D would do enough to win.

Maybe it’s because I got into watching the Packers in the late 70s with my Dad. I know that’s where I got a lot of my colorful language…

They only won 10 last year w/ Manning.

Next year they’ll be 2 years older. I don’t see them being a playoff team w/ Manning next year. That team has gotten old and now has a lack of talent. Houston is for real and is gonna be damn good for a few more years and Tennessee finally has a QB to build around in Locker. I thing Indy’s playoff run is OVER, Manning or not!

if Manning is fully healthy like he was in 2009 (in 2010 he was losing strength in his right arm which is the reason he had the neck surgery in the first place), I can’t see him winning fewer than ten games.

So Manning is healthy and back to his "09 self, big IF, but even w/ that the rest of the team has dropped off the cliff. Be lucky to win 10 w/ a healthy Manning and even then I don’t see it. Houston is in their prime and Tenn has Hasselbeck and Locker and some weapons. Won’t matter… Indy is done competing for the SB, they’ll be lucky to compete for playoffs.

Our Biggest Challenge is how we deal w/ Success!

by Strohman on Jan 7, 2012 5:38 PM CST up reply actions

I'm with you

What makes Manning so good is how smart he is, and a neck injury isn’t going to erase that. He’s still going to pick defenses apart because he’ll almost always know exactly where to go with the ball. Maybe his throwing will be a little off but I even doubt that.

Wayne has dropped off, and Clark seems to be too but Garcon and Collie are good. Castanzo and Ilijuana had good years to and seem like guys who could develop into good OL.

I don’t know if they’ll make the playoffs because I think the Texans are legitimate, especially with Schaub and Williams coming back but I wouldn’t doubt for a second that they’ll have a winning season. Manning is just too good. That team has had 1-4 win level talent for the past 3-4 years now imo, and Manning still got them 10+ wins every year.
