More Awards and Recognition For Matt Flynn
Flynn named 'NFC Offensive Player of the Week'. Aaron Rodgers won it three times this season, but it took him 15 starts! It only took one for Matt Flynn.
Flynn's record-setting performance voted Never Say Never Moment of Week. This award made me think back on my favorite play, and I think it's a tie:
His 36 yard touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson in the 2nd quarter. He threw it on target 40 yards downfield right up against the sideline.
His 40 yard completion along the sideline to James Jones with 1:25 left in the game. It wasn't for a touchdown, but it set up a short TD pass to Finley two plays later. I'm pretty impressed with long completions along the sidelines.
FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Week 17 Quick Reads. They compared Flynn's game to every game since 1992. The conclusion was that his ceiling is guys like Brady, Brees, Peyton Manning, and Roethlisberger. His floor is quarterbacks like Marc Bulger, Randall Cunningham, and Trent Green. All of those guys have made Pro Bowls, and some of them are destined for the Hall of Fame. If the truth is somewhere in the middle, Flynn should be on his way to multiple Pro Bowls and teams should be in a bidding war for him this offseason. I don't know if that'll actually happen, but it should.

Yep...
Flynn should and will demand lots of attention this offseason. For all the reasons you stated. I’m convinced he’s a future pro-bowler.
Hypothetical:
Say the Pack had finished this year 6-10. With plenty of weakness/needs to be addressed. Would any of you consider trading Rodgers instead of Flynn (Flynn a couple years younger) and do a Herschel Walker type trade for multiples no 1 and 2’s for Rodgers? That’s how Dallas was able to create their dynasty, by drafting Emmitt Smith along with Aikman, thanks to the Herschel Walker trade, etc.
It’s never been done — can’t recall ever a team trading away an elite future hall of famer just entering his prime. But that Herschel Walker case (google it if you don’t remember the details) shows that it could work…
Looking forward to the Packers three-peating and visiting President Ron Paul at the White House in 2013
Yeah, that's an interesting point
If Rodgers had these stats, and we were 6-10, we would have the worst defense in the league by an extremely large margin. However, if that were the case…. No. Rodgers has proven he can be a great quarterback; Hence the Super Bowl, 2 good/1 great season, etc… Flynn is still largely unproven. Actually, on second thought, if we were going to get a ton, I mean a ton of draft picks for Rodgers, then…. maybe? What kind of haul are you suggesting?

Certainly an interesting thought but you are playing with fire doing that. You are trading a sure thing, top 3 QB (okay #1), for a guy that has looked good in his two games. There is no guarantee that he can keep it up once teams have a lot of film on him. It would be fun to find out just what a team would give for Rodgers though.

Yeah, but
If you had a really great puppy, and I had like ten other great puppies, and you had another great but not so great puppy and I was like, bro, I’ll trade you ten of my pretty great puppies for your great puppy, what wouldja say? Hm?

every season of his has been great except 2008, which was still very good.
this year he wasn’t just great, he was otherworldly.

noooooo definitely not
the difference between Flynn and Rodgers is HUGE…Flynn’s two games are very impressive, but they are still only two games when teams didn’t have much film on him..in this league a top tier QB will instantly make you into a playoff contender..Indy with Manning is the obvious example

No
RBs like Walker have a much shorter shelf life than QBs, they’re also much less important in today’s NFL. Rodgers is pretty much the one guy I wouldn’t trade.

hypothetically, if Rodgers still had that Super Bowl ring from last year, no way.

The man deserves attention
He’s been impressive in both career starts, and it’s just amazing that he set franchise records on a team that was home to players like Favre, Starr, and even Rodgers in his second start. He’s on his way to big things.
Don't forget Dickey and Herber

Trading ARod?! Blasphemy!
Way back when, I was screaming for TT to send Favre to Seattle for a crap load of draft picks. Instead, he got diddly for Hasselbeck. Hasselbeck did ok in Seattle – he would have had a ring if there was a bit more talent. I think Hasselbeck, and those extra draft picks, could have put Green Bay deep into the playoffs several times that we missed. However. Keeping ARod. ARod ain’t Favre – he doesn’t give you a heart attack every time he throws.

I can back him on this.
In early 1998 I was outside the Kohl’s on Fish hatchery in Madison and this dude was yelling at me about black helicopters and the illuminati and true forced loneliness and ashton kutcher being on two and a half men and sending favre to seattle for the future rights to shawn alexander and jim mcilvaine of the supersonics. I gave him all my change and then he sang me a sweet version of “san antonio rose” by bob wills.
You gotta admit he was spot on on a few of those.

trading Favre at that time would have been a bad idea as well.
but trading Rodgers now is a way way worse idea.

We oughta get at least something close to a 1st rounder
Name a single College QB this year – Luck, whoever – that could start with higher upsides next fall over Matt Flynn? Matt Flynn, with a decent team, can win and lead – Maybe the Colts should investigate him, and send Manning somewhere? Colts with Luck or whoever – still losers. Colts with Flynn? Back into playoff contention.
Are you thinking
something along the lines of a second rounder, and then the Colts would turn #1 into a later first rounder plus parts?
You’ll never see a cool quilt back away…
Not an unrestricted one,
if we slap the Franchise Tag on him.

Ware?
That would be highway robbery. And while I think Flynn can be good, I can’t believe Dallas would judge him enough of an upgrade over Romo (if indeed he is even likely to be better than Romo) to give up the best player on their team.
If you want to rob someone, at least pick a team that doesn’t have a better-than-average QB already. There are many such teams.
Damn, I really don't want to rob any of the teams that would be needing a QB. Maybe the Redskins...
But given the opportunity I’d sure enjoy seeing the Vikings robbed blind and left naked by the side of the highway. Damn you, first round investment last year!
I already told you! I deal with the god damn receivers so the linebackers don’t have to! I have coverage skills; I’m good at covering people! Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!
I'll give Tony Romeo this much...
He can definitely pile up those regular season wins and stats.
And that’s about it…

As long as it’s not December
Romo is not great, but he has one thing going for him, and that's all he needs.
Jerry Jones loves him.

Romo is one of the best QBs in the NFL
but keep sipping that kool aid.

Cameron Wake would be nice. The Dolphins should be in the market for a QB. We would need to use the Franchise tag on Flynn to be able to trade him though and that means risking the loss of Finley.

Can't believe...
I still can’t believe that Thompson missed on Wake coming out of the CFL! Seems like just the kinda signing that Thompson usually excels at. He would have put the Packers D over the top! Having CM3 and Wake would be the best OLB group in the NFL. How Thompson didn’t identify and sign Wake still surprises me!
Our Biggest Challenge is how we deal w/ Success!
Prolly have better luck trying to trade him to Washington for Orakpo

If we end up in the position to trade Flynn for draft picks...
We would probably get the most out of trading him to the Redskins. However, wouldn’t Dan Snyder just absolutely ruin him? I plan on rooting for whichever team Flynn lands with, but it would be pretty hard to get on board that team as long as Snyder is in charge.
I’d prefer he land on an AFC team, but right now I’m hoping for the Seahawks, as my brother goes to a college in Spokane and routinely complains about getting stuck with those games instead of the Pack.
I'm hoping for the Seahawks, Browns, or Bills (I know they just signed Fitz, but I have season tickets and would love to see Flynn 8 times a year)

Rumor has it that Flynn
is an avid fan of KC and the Sunshine Band and knows how to play his Funk!!!
