NFC Wild Card Open Thread: Lions at Saints
Though the Saints are nearly unbeatable in their dome, the Lions can keep up in a shoot-out and their defense could cause the Saints some problems. The Lions have to avoid all the dumb penalties that killed them in their December loss in New Orleans. The Lions don't seem like 11 point underdogs to me. I'm not rooting for one team or the other. The Packers can beat either of them in Green Bay.

Turnovers
Surprisingly the Saints are minus 3 on the regular season. Winning the turnover battle isn’t a big part of their success. They’ve only had 9 INTs as a team for the season, which is 2 more than Charles Woodson had by himself. This early turnover might not hurt them.
I have faith in the Lions' ability to lose emotional control and mess a few things up.
I already told you! I deal with the god damn receivers so the linebackers don’t have to! I have coverage skills; I’m good at covering people! Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!
Brees throws the ball up for grabs too much for my taste
it can be effective when you have Colston and Graham out there catching the ball, but it results in picks every now and then.
One of the biggest differences between him and Rodgers. The only time you see Rodgers throw it up for grabs is when he got the defense to jump offsides.
football does not build character, it reveals character.
That's interesting..
Because I heard Darren Sharper on ESPN radio talking about how the Saints defensive “opportunism” (with Jenkins especially) could tip the balance in their favor against the Pack.
Looking forward to the Packers three-peating and visiting President Ron Paul at the White House in 2013
that's hilarious, because the Packers' defense is known to be the most 'opportunistic' in the NFL
couple that with the fact that Brees gambles with the ball frequently, and I’d say the exact reverse is true.

I'm not a Packers fan, and I'm not trying to start anything.
But does anyone else thing the Pack are a little lucky to have caught the Saints in Week 1? They really seem like a completely different team now than they did 3 months ago, and I don’t know that you could consider them more than a 2 point dog to the Packers, even at home.

yeah, there don't look to be any legitimate challengers in this year's AFC
unless the Steelers get hot, or Joe Flacco suddenly forgets that he’s Joe Flacco, the AFC team will probably get run over in the SB
football does not build character, it reveals character.
I'd say the Ravens have the best shot at appearing the SB
Steelers don’t even have a decent running game anymore. Ray Rice is running like a man possessed, and every once in a while Flacco looks like a legit NFL QB. I’d put my money on Flacco rather than the Steelers finding a running game. You can’t chuck it deep to Mike Wallace every play…. even though that might be kind of fun to watch.
When ya said....
every once in a while Flacco looks like a legit NFL QB

Pittsburgh, if Ben's ankle heals up, can score with Green Bay, and slow down Green Bay with their defense (maybe)
I don’t think Baltimore can score enough, so they don’t scare me much. But if Flacco goes nuts and starts playing like a good playoff QB, they definitely look scary
football does not build character, it reveals character.
If you thought some of the RBs you've faced have done damage
Ray Rice would have a field day against the Packers. That could present a real problem.
yeah those big games rushing recently were all with Pickett out of the lineup
he’s the most important player in the run defense, and he’s healthy now.

I disagree
it only seems that way because they’ve played a series of games indoors recently and put up big numbers, something they always do indoors, particularly at home. They’re still the same team that struggles in any inclimate weather conditions, be it wind, cold, or precipitation.
football does not build character, it reveals character.
I think the Saints have been the exact same team all season
and the only reason people are saying stuff like this is because they haven’t played outside since Tennessee, who they almost lost to. so they’ve been able to continue running up high scores.
IMO, the Saints were lucky that they got to play in Lambeau in early September on a warm, calm night. And they still lost. What does that tell you?

we didn’t do anything for the entire 1st half, why? I was down in San Angelo with a Hawks fan at Buffalo Wild Wings screaming at the top of my lungs to run the ball up the middle, dicatate the game to the hawks, yet they just passed and passed. second half comes and we run the ball… game over, we blew them up. bet won, he pays for the bill.

Packers: Working on a dynasty.
Blackhawks: Taking care of business as usual.

Pathetic.
They get hit harder by their team mates when they score FFS
Lol Collinsworth, I wish I played these days...
So I fulfill my dreams of being under Vince Wilfork.

This is probably the most important non-Packer game of the playoffs.
Packers: Working on a dynasty.
Blackhawks: Taking care of business as usual.
Badgers: Chin up, boys.
Brewers: Move along, nothin' to see here.

Never has a record been broken as boringly as the one he got this year…
yeah it would be like a shorter Aaron Rodgers with a weaker arm and less swag...

Seeing at how this game started
I did not expect it to be only 14-10.

This is not the Super Bowl, this is Detroit!

Lions
Missed a sack opportunity, and two chances for INTS. The Saints are lucky to get those 3 points.
Let's see how the second half adjustments work out before we judge.

Personal feelings aside, I have to root for the Lions.
But damn I really want to see them lose.

it’s unfortunate they’re playing each other in the opening round.

it's funny because I haven't noticed the bandwagon effect for the Pack yet
I still fear it though, especially if they win another title

Poor Detroit. What are defensive players supposed to do now? I hate what the NFL has become and I wish that stupid moron of a commissioner would resign.
why do you hate it? It favours the Packers as much as any other team
football does not build character, it reveals character.
I like teams who score lots of points not from help with the rules but because they are really good. If they toned it down a little it would help the Packers even more.

not a bad point

I still think those Rams teams from about ten years ago were the best offense ever assembled in NFL history. They put up the enormous numbers, without the help of the rules.

Kurt Warner remains underappreciated IMO
he was right up there with Manning and Brady IMO
football does not build character, it reveals character.
True.
However, as far as Warner is concerned in St. Louis, you have to remember that he had Pace, Hakim, Faulk, Bruce and Holt on offense with him
"This one means 'Kill Kirk!!!!'... And also, 'hallelujah'... Depending on the context."
Charles Woodson plays for us too.

They have to get rid of their reputation for dirty play.
Refs have a higher probability of making a PF call against them due to this. Their own damn fault.
