Packers vs. Texans: Dud Of The Week

Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Only one of the usual suspects for this year was nominated for this week's Dud.

There were lots of good in the game against the Texans and so this post is going to be a little light. There were a few performances worthy of the shame of being the "Dud of the Week." Let’s meet the nominees…

LG T.J. Lang. J.J. Watt had two sacks against the Packers and both times he was blowing up Lang to get them. I’m not sure if this is a reflection on what sort of lineman Lang is, or just exactly who awesome Josh Sitton is….but in a game littered with high end performances Lang’s two sack night lands him among the Dud nominees.

CB Tramon Williams. It’s tough to draw a match up with Andre Johnson, but that’s the job of the number one corner. Williams struggled a bit in coverage and usually was only beaten when Johnson ran a particularly crisp route. Still, I expect Williams to shut down receivers, even ones the caliber of Johnson, a bit more than what we saw on Sunday night.

TE Jermichael Finley. His best catch was taken away by a questionable OPI call, and had another critical drop in the end zone. Not a good night. He was playing hurt, yes, but the drops are becoming a trend. If J-Mike wants to be an elite play maker in this league he’s got to overcome injuries and his own mental lapses and make those plays….otherwise guys like James Jones, Randall Cobb, D.J. Williams and even Tom Crabtree are just going to make him expendable.

RB James Starks. Is it fair to put him on this list yet? He got his first action of the regular season and it came in garbage time. This was totally appropriate because that’s the way Starks looked, like garbage. He still has that awful habit of running to the line and then trying to juke his way out of tackles. Word of advice to Mr. Starks….that running style didn't work when you were healthy and it’s not going to work when you are still recovering from turf toe. Instead, watch what Benson and Green have been doing while you have been warming the bench….see a hole and hit it with as much burst as you can muster.
