Packers Activate Quarless And Shut Down Perry

Matthew Stockman

Nick Perry is now done for the year and has been moved to IR. Andrew Quarless may just be getting started as he was activated off the PUP.

It is now official, Nick Perry is done for the year. The Packers have placed Perry on injured reserve after he received surgery on his wrist. Since the Packers have already designated Cedric Benson as the player who could return from injured reserve, this means that Perry is now done for the rest of the 2012 season.

It’s unfortunate that Perry is not going to get more playing time this year. He was showing promise in the transition to playing a 3-4 OLB from the 4-3 DE he played in college. Perry was also a major reason why the Packers pass rush showed so much promise early in the year. Now the Packers have to hope that Frank Zombo can help fill the void that Perry has left behind and help prevent Clay Matthews from seeing double and triple team blocks the rest of the year.

In other roster moves, Andrew Quarless has been activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list. Similar to Derrek Sherrod, Quarless will be able to practice for three weeks before the Packers have to make a final decision on whether to cut him, move him to the injured reserve list, or to make room on the 53 man roster for him.

Quarless was a fifth round draft choice in 2010. He adequately filled in for Jermichael Finley through his rookie year and showed promise to be a real weapon for the Packers in 2011 before injuring his knee. If healthy, Quarless may provide consistent production out of the tight end that Finley has not been able to produce this year. Then again, it may be a bit much to expect much production out of a player coming off a major knee injury.
