Jermichael Finley: 'It was a no-brainer' - NFC North Blog - ESPN. The Green Bay Packers usually do a good job of finding hidden ways to reduce the cost of their free agent contracts. They won't guarantee as much money, but the annual salary will be at market rate. As long as the veteran player remains a starter, he's going to be paid like a starter for the length of the contract.
But this is the rare situation where a short term deal might come back to haunt them. Here's what Finley had to say about the contract length:
"It was a no-brainer to sign a two-year deal," Finley said, "and come back to the table at 26 when Jimmy Graham done hit it and Gronkowski done hit it and raised the market. I'm going to be back then, knocking on the door."
So when he becomes a free agent again after the 2013 season, the Packers might find themselves in a situation where he'll be a lot more expensive.
