Packersnews.com | Green Bay Packers | Insiders Blog " GM Thompson elusive at NFL Combine. Green Bay Packers GM Ted Thompson spoke to the media in Indianapolis at the NFL combine, and it's no surprise that he didn't say much.
He did talk about Nick Collins (it's up to the doctors). He wouldn't answer a question about Matt Flynn or speculate on the Packers plans in free agency or the draft (no kidding). I'm really surprised reporters even bothered with those questions. They might as well have asked him if he planned on taking in a college basketball game and helping out around the court.
He was asked a couple questions about injuries. He said TE Andrew Quarless is doing "fine" as he rehabs from a serious knee injury, but Quarless has such a long road back that I really didn't expect him to know too much about it. He also said that Derek Sherrod will return from his severely broken leg and expects him to have a long career.
While I'm not expecting much from Quarless next season because his knee injury happened so late in the season (December), I'm hoping Sherrod will be back to full strength by the start of training camp. Broken bones heal quicker than it takes to come back from torn ligaments, but Sherrod's injury was pretty serious because he broke the tibia and fibula. The depth on the offensive line is pretty thin, especially if Chad Clifton is released or retires, and Scott Wells leaves in free agency. Even if Sherrod isn't quite ready to start in 2012, hopefully he can be the top backup at guard and tackle next season.
