MVP baby!

Not a real big surprise but always cool to have the league MVP on your beloved team. Aaron Rodgers was officially announced as the NFL Most Valuable Player, getting 48 out of 50 votes. He did not win offensive player of the year - that trophy will go Drew Bress' way.

And let me just say this: it won't be his last. We should all be thankful for having this guy locked in behind center at Lambeau for the 2010s.

Interesting...

Not surprised he won, surprised he won it in a complete landslide. People are raging hard at this too…they should keep giving wisconsin players MVPs to see every other fanbase rage, I need some more goddamn popcorn…think I could borrow some salt from the whiners?

I don't think we'll be that lucky

Good to see Rodgers win, in a landslide too.

I love how skip worships Tebow and Rodgers hasn’t done enough to prove himself haha

I'm shocked that Tebow didn't get any votes

You know whats sad

Not one single mention or congratulations for any of the players receiving an AP award on his twitter. But you know that if Brady won MVP or if Tebow won something, that he would have posted at least a few tweets. Unbiased analyst yeah right.

It actually frustrates me how bad they are, like with all the money they have they can’t find any better analysts and commentators?

Well...

You make fun of them, you talk about how stupid they are, but you still watch the shows and read their Twitter accounts, which is the whole purpose of people like Bayless and Cowherd. They’re there solely to create controversy. You think E$PN gives a damn about their quality of analysts?

3. I don’t agree with most of his takes.
4. His only contribution to the sports world is this.

I expect the win

I didn’t expect the landside.

Does the fact that Brees ran up scores to break the record hurt him for the MVP voting?

by king.nothing on Feb 4, 2012 7:44 PM CST reply actions

I thought Rodgers would win convincingly

But I thought it would be more to the order of 40-10 instead of 48-2. I thought Brees would pull away a few more votes with the records at the end of the year.

Happy Virginian, Sconnie for life.

by wibrownguy on Feb 4, 2012 10:41 PM CST up reply actions

Not surprised in the least.

It was a landslide… Only way that Brees had some better numbers is by virtue of alot more attempts. Slightly higher completion %, but he plays in a dome and didn’t have a cold weather game all year! Rodgers was better by every meaningful stat that measure efficiency in any way. I’m actually surprised anyone thought it would be close…

I imagined

…an asian dude saying that. made it funnier

by packermussupreme on Feb 4, 2012 10:30 PM CST up reply actions

I contest, if Rodgers stayed in every play like Brees

he would be holding the records for most yardage, defnitely most TDs, and all that jazz. I also think they would have played better vs the giants and possibly we could be watching a repeat effort. but not all is to waste for this year.

stafford getting the comeback player is a joke. he never set any sort of bar. this was essentially his 3rd rookie season. give it to someone who deserves it more.

by Nels Winkler on Feb 4, 2012 8:23 PM CST reply actions

I'm perfectly fine with giving him comeback player of the year...

I raged about this at the time

And to have Alex Smith in the conversation was as big of a joke. Sproles wuz robbed.

Sproles?

What did he come back from? He was a valuable player last year.

13.

"Skip, once again, stop it; Be an analyst; don't be a douchebag."

by Wiedmann on Feb 6, 2012 1:15 PM CST up reply actions

I was thinking the same thing.

The only thing that changed for Sproles was his inclusion in an offense. I’m fine with Stafford winning. He’s on his “3rd rookie season” because of major injuries in back-to-back years. That he recovered and played beyond-effectively is the definition of a Comeback. I know we’ve lost the meaning of the word thanks to Favre’s “comebacks” from a 3 month retirement called the offseason, but Stafford was as deserving of the award as anyone this year.

Baseball, you can't get here soon enough.

by Tepo6688 on Feb 6, 2012 1:20 PM CST up reply actions

Thinking mainly of his return game

Which was back to his rookie-year levels. I’d classify Stafford’s and Smith’s seasons as “break-out” rather than “comeback”.

"Who ever heard of the Cubs losing a game they had to have?" -Frank Chance

He was a damn good returner in SD last year

There wasn’t much difference in his play last year to this year.

13.

"Skip, once again, stop it; Be an analyst; don't be a douchebag."

by Wiedmann on Feb 6, 2012 3:32 PM CST up reply actions

Breakout vs Comeback

Breakout would refer to a player who played but not very well and stepped his game up in a big way. A la Alex Smith…

Comeback player refers to a player coming back from a major injury to put up very good numbers or lead his team in some way after returning from injury. Stafford is a perfect example of a comeback player. He had his 2 previous seasons wiped out by shoulder injuries that could have potentially ended his career, to put up great number AND lead his team!

Our Biggest Challenge is how we deal w/ Success!

by Strohman on Feb 6, 2012 10:32 PM CST up reply actions

The term "comeback" conjures up an imaginary line that someone must, y'know, come back to meet or exceed

Stafford never had set that line, having been derailed by injuries.

And since this is showing signs of devolving into an argument about semantics, I’ll leave it at that.

He was the 1st overall pick in the draft.

So he had alot to live up too, and then alot to overcome w/ the shoulder injuries that threatened his career. Epitome of comeback…

Sproles? He didn’t come back from anything. I don’t think he was robbed at all.

I'd say that Suggs is more versatile than either, especially Allen.

Too much emphasis is often placed on stats in this sport, right Sean Payton?

Rodgers was the most efficient passer by a long shot this year. Give me that over the guy who happened to heave it up 155 more times and selfishly played deeper into games to pad his numbers

by WildPack86 on Feb 4, 2012 9:03 PM CST via mobile reply actions   2 recs

LOL@Saint fans.

Imagine if Rodgers had the best freakin’ O-line in the NFL, or Darren Sproules to bail him out when no ones open, or Jimmy Graham, or receivers that actually held onto the ball… The award wouldn’t even be close. Just because a couple of pathetic Saints homers think that Brees should’ve won [and to be fair, in any other year he would have], does not mean he should have. 48-2? That should just shut any Saints fan’s mouth on the spot. Case closed.

gdi

my friend is trying to argue he shouldn’t have won because of flynn…really? That’s pretty flimsy, especially with brees losing his only advantage in stats because of his 150-ish more passes, a far better oline, very good receiving core, effective running backs (not to mention sproles), and a great TE. By comparison, I’d argue Brees had more help around him than Rodgers did, even with a good backup.
