The APC Non-Aaron Rodgers Offensive 2011 MVP

If I ran a poll that included Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, I'd expect he'd be the run away winner for the team's offensive MVP. The battle for second place should come down to the top two wide receivers, but I've included a whole bunch of starters in the poll below and let's see what happens.

Poll
Who was the second best player on the Packers offense in 2011?
Greg Jennings
103 votes
Jordy Nelson
745 votes
Jermichael Finley
8 votes
Scott Wells
71 votes
Josh Sitton
7 votes
Bryan Bulaga
10 votes
John Kuhn
9 votes

I can't ever tell if my votes even work on mobile

Which is ok because I’m torn between Nelson, Jennings, and Finley

I think it will be Nelson. He’ll get the edge over Jennings due to Jennings injury and the unexpected breakout season that he had though when Jennings was healthy I think he was the secondary MVP behind Rodgers.

To me, Nelson by a landslide

Pretty sure this would be less of a runaway vote if rodgers was in it.

I feel like the gap between rodgers and jordy would be less than jordy/anyone else.

Reasoning would be that jordy was crucial to rodgers success as were other recievers and lineman. And that without rodgers, the top 2 are jennings and nelson, 2 wide recievers where there isnt really too much debate that one is better.

lineman arent a factor, bulaga did well, sitton too but underperformed himself a bit.

by power296 on Feb 7, 2012 12:28 PM CST reply actions

yeah bud, seriously.

Considering Nelson and Jennings play the same position, there is no room for argument at all between the two. Nelson had a better season, argument over. Cross comparing positions is more complex and opionionated

If you have rodgers and nelson there is at least an argument. There are a ton of Packer fans that think Rodgers is a system quarterback and wouldnt be as good without the weapons he has. Just as there were plenty of Packer fans that thought similar things about favre.

Im not saying I dont agree, I do. Rodgers was our MVP.

Simply stated that the poll would have been closer, which I still think is true.

Reply fail aside, cross-position arguments was a good point.

I just think Rodgers would get like 99% of the vote.

who are these Packer fans that feel that way…about either QB? There were actually Packer fans dumb enough to think Favre was only good because of his weapons? One of the things that made Favre amazing was that he did it without great weapons.

Curious about that myself...

Whoever thinks Rodgers is a “system” QB is a freakin idiot! First all QB’s are system QB’s since the offense they play in is taylored to their strengths. But Rodgers is the complete package and would be successful in whatever system he was in… Whether the WCO or the Coryell passing game matters little! He can make every throw in the book, is extremely accurate, is mobile, has a BIG Time arm… What “system” wouldn’t that work in?

"system" quarterbacks are defined that way because their skill set limits them to one system.

Alex Smith is a system quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers has one of the 2 or 3 strongest arms in the NFL, and he can run. That is the exact opposite of a “system” QB.

football does not build character, it reveals character.

Voted Nelson!

Just to clarify… Don’t confuse my support of certain players w/ a lack of intellect and rationality. Both of which I have in abundance!

I would say Jennings

But he was injured for 3 games, so my vote goes to Nelson. Other than that, Wells probably has the best argument for the award. Bulaga would have made a strong case for it too, but he was injured for a while, as was Sitton.

Got to give some love to the guys that kept Rodgers upright. After the beating he took a couple years ago, that’s something that’s always under-reported, considering how much heat the line (and Aaron, as well) took for it.

by mpbMKE on Feb 7, 2012 3:03 PM CST up reply actions

Aye on Jennings

I like the point about the line, but it’s difficult to measure any single lineman’s value. They work as a group more than than the receivers, and are only as strong as the weakest link. I voted Jennings, but thought about Wells.

As for Jennings over Nelson . . . Nelson had an excellent season but I still think Jennings is more valuable to our offense. Not by a lot this last season, though.

Thought it would be closer.

But, yeah, Nelson had a better season, more explosive plays, clearly more yards and TDs… Doesn’t take away from the fact that Jennings is still an elite NFL receiver, Nelson’s just joined him in that category.

by mpbMKE on Feb 7, 2012 3:02 PM CST reply actions

Consideration for Wells

It’s hard to argue with Nelson, but is it possible that Rodgers, Nelson, ET AL would have had worse seasons if the line hadn’t held together, anchored by Well? Just a thought.

You're supposed to be ripping Jermichael Finley.

by TrevorR on Feb 8, 2012 12:26 PM CST up reply actions

Well, yeah...

But there are a lot of factors that go into any offensive protection scheme. Just-ok protection can look better when a QB always has open receivers, just like receivers can look more open when the QB has more time to find them. I think there were a lot of both this season. Rodgers is smart enough to manipulate the defense and know when he has more time or less time, so a lot of it is on him, as well.

I think the line was good enough, and I certainly remember a similarly loaded offense struggling because of poor protection, but, just like when all those sacks weren’t exclusively the fault of the line, the good protection this past season wasn’t exclusively because of how good the line was.

by mpbMKE on Feb 7, 2012 5:11 PM CST up reply actions

Probably Jordy.

If Gurley can develop into Brandon Marshall/#1 WR type player, our receiving core is gonna be pro-bowl esque. Like, seeing Larry Fitzgerald catch passes from Aaron Rodgers was actually really awesome. One of the few good things about the Pro Bowl.

Aaron Rodgers, MVP.

AMAZING

People arguing back and forth if jennings is as good/better than nelson. More than half the darn teams in the NFL would kill to have the problem of two solid number 1 wideouts. The tandem of Nelson and Jennings is so win and could be the best wideout combo we have seen in out life-time when its all said and done.

To Loud

He fumbled if I do remember corectly. I think you guys might have missed your cue and were off or maybe to loud and it messed up his timing. Only logical reasoning for that guy fumbling. His only fumble ALL season….That game was cursed almost from the opening toss. Somone needs to conduct a spiritual cleasening of lambeau the spirits are pissed.
