According to a GBPG aricle, "an NFL source said it’s an open secret in the league that
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is planning to revive interest in his team by signing
Peyton Manning." Obviously this has league wide ramifications... In particular it has an impact on the
Packers, since Miami was believed to be a likely landing spot for
Matt Flynn. I have stated on a couple occasions, that I think Manning would end up in Miami, and Flynn would probably be in Seattle. Lets look at how the Manning news will impact the draft. Its pretty much a foregone conclusion that Luck goes to Indy. That leaves Cleveland and Washington in the RG3 sweepstakes. I think Cleveland is most likely to trade up to #2 to get him. They only have to move up 2 spots and have 2 1st round picks to make it happen. That leaves Washington looking for a QB. I think they are fairly likely to invest their 1st round pick in Ryan Tannehill to give them a potential QB of the future. If they are smart they will try to move down before they draft him, but like Minnesota taking Ponder, if they can't find any takers to move up they will be forced to take him at #6. Seattle was never in the discussion for Manning and given where they are picking, moving all the way to #2 would be very prohibitive.
Other teams seemed to be in the discussion for Manning. Among them AZ, NYJ, KD... However, they were never likely spots for Flynn as these team probably feel the QB's currently on the roster are as good as Flynn or can be as good or better. Flynn going to Seattle makes sense on a couple levels too. He is probably and upgreade over Tarvaris Jackson and Whitehurst and Schneider has to be well informed as to Flynns strengths and weaknesses.
