Ted Thompson ~ "Not drafting for specific need."

Just got done watching "Ted Thompson's pre-draft press conference" and found it very vanilla, but interesting. The biggest thing I took away from this was that TT professes not to draft for an "Immediate Need" (i.e. OLB, DE, S, C, RB)

Ted also said, he wouldn't intentionally draft defensive players this year, but, maybe sub-consciencely he might? : )

Said the Packers don't draft that way. The Packers draft for the "Long Term Investment" of the team. Which makes perfect sense when you look at the Aaron Rodgers pick, the Jordy Nelson pick, and countless others. I find it difficult to believe that we won't be looking to up-grade our defense this year, I guess this may be a distinct case of talent meets need in the 1st and 2nd rounds! : )

I'm not going to panic just yet, because there is no reason to believe that the BPA when we pick isn't going to be a defensive player, 50% of the time. I don't know how the Packers rank the players on their board, but, I'm sure TT and the 13+ guys he has working on the draft will do an admirable job. In TT we trust!
