Ashante Samuel on the block. Would you find a way to get him?

Profootball Talk today had a story saying that the Denver Broncos had proposed a 5th or 6th round pick for Ashante Samuel. It is now believed that Denver is out of the running for the 31 year old since they have signed Tracy Porter.

Samuel has a rather large salary of $10M for this year and $11.5M for next year. Samuel apparently is unwilling to reduce his pay. Some questions come to mind. Is this a player, given age and salary, that the Packers should pursue? Clearly the salary situation makes it a non starter, but what if he agreed to a reduction? Does he still have enough left in the tank, or has his game slipped?

My opinion is the secondary was only part of the problem last year. Most of the problem was the pass rush. But, would improving the secondary hurt? What say you?
