I have to say, that like all Packer fans, I am absolutely thrilled to see Derek Sherrod get back out on the field. He has had such a trying path back to the field, and I will be rooting for him on a level that only my current fandom of Johnny Jolly can understand (I love all my Green Bay Packers, but I am just so behind those guys right now). I really hope, that after nearly two years away from the field, he can regain the talent that made him worthy of a first round pick. His return also coincides with the atrocious play of Don Barclay, so if he can get some of the magic back (that he hasn't had much chance to show off in GB, admittedly) that should be a pretty big boost for this team a couple months down the road.
These are clearly going to be some trying weeks for the Pack, but I remain optimistic. I do not think that the Packers should push James to play this weekend (this is a good time to tread carefully), but with the way the run game is being executed, I do not think it will cost us the game. Cleveland has a bunch of difference makers on defense with Desmond Bryant, Jabaal Sheard, Joe Haden and TJ Ward (I have also liked the way Phil Taylor has played when I've watched him), but the interior line has played well enough, and the offense has found enough balance, that these guys should not overcome our offense. On defense, we're very fortunate, because even Brett Favre would call Brandon Weeden careless after the way he threw the ball in the 2nd half against the lions. That being said, the run defense is going to have to maintain its high level of performance, because I just don't see us being able to get to Weeden that often, even though nobody holds onto the ball longer than him.
An additional note on Weeden, I watched that thursday night game against the bills and was absolutely astounded at how clueless Weeden was in the pocket. Unless you're running straight into his face, he won't know you're there. If Nick Perry was going to play, I would guess that his tomahawk-esque move would generate at least one fumble, and probably more.
Have a good one ladies& gents
