During overtime in the thursday night football Bengals vs Dolphins, the bengels faced a 2nd and 8 from somewhere in the 39 to 41 yard line. The bengals attepted to go vertical on all thier routes. To me dont you just try to at least have a slot wr run a slant to try and pick up 5-6 yards and put yourself in FG range?
Then if you pick up 5 yards you've got 3rd and 3 and your well within Mike Nuggents range. (He had just nailed a 54 yarder that easily would have went in from 65 yards.) from here try to pick up 3 on the ground. if not attempt a 55-56 yard kick
Another thing on that 4th and 8 where they punted am i the only one who thinks you go for it there? You've got 2 really talented recieving TEs and an amazing WR. does 22-23 yards of field position really make going for it THAT risky?
Finally what makes the Bengals play calling so so bad in my opinion is after just being completely conservative on their opponents 38 yard line, on their very next possession, from thier own 10 they went ultra aggressive and bombed it out 3 straight times, resulting in a sack for a safety. Basically how many of you would agree with going for it on 4th and 8?
