Report: Aaron Rodgers' Shoulder Scan Results to Arrive Today

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

According to a report by ESPN's Ed Werder, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is scheduled for a shoulder scan today. The results will determine not only whether he plays this Sunday against the Falcons, but also likely his outlook for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Since Aaron Rodgers was first diagnosed with a fractured collarbone, many have asked why the Packers haven't taken more scans of his injured shoulder to determine a recovery timeline. On his radio show, Rodgers has repeatedly mentioned that the majority of what's been reported is inaccurate because he hasn't had an x-ray since early November. Well, it appears the wait is over.

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, Rodgers is scheduled for a shoulder scan today. The results would obviously affect how the Packers approach the remainder of the season. While Packers fans may not know the availability of Rodgers for Sunday's game until later in the week, it's likely the team will know the answer sometime this afternoon.

If for whatever reason Rodgers is unable to play this weekend and the Packers drop another game to the Falcons, it could spell the end of Rodgers' season.

Rodgers has repeatedly stated that he wouldn't accept a trip to the injured reserve even if the team was out of playoff contention, but he doesn't hold much leverage. The league generally defers to the teams on IR decisions, and unless Rodgers' shoulder is 100% healed, the NFLPA wouldn't have much of a case should one be raised. In short, the decision whether to move Rodgers to the IR could be made as soon as tonight.

That said, Rodgers is almost exactly one month removed from the original injury. Every collarbone break is a little different, and Rodgers' was never discussed as a clean break. Accordingly, there's reason for optimism that the Packers' franchise quarterback will return this weekend.
