Reggie Bush signs with Detroit Lions

Jim Rogash

Our division rivals just added a new dimension to their offense.

The very static and one-dimensional Detroit Lions offense just got a bit more dynamic. The team has agreed to terms with free agent running back Reggie Bush, most recently with the Miami Dolphins, and he'll sign a four-year deal with the team. Terms of the deal have not been released, but we should find out about the financial specifics later today.

While Bush has caught some criticism in his career for failing to live up to the hype his college performances generated, he's still had a very good professional career and is a dangerous player. He can't be asked to shoulder the load for his team and be a regular between the tackles runner, but he's extremely dangerous in a two-back system, paired with a more powerful guy. His speed, open field moves and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield make him extremely dangerous.

This is the exact type of player that the Lions needed, and I'm not looking forward to seeing their offense next year. Bush is not a superstar, but he's something completely different from what they had before, and gives defenses something else to keep an eye on. It's going to be harder to simply blanket Megatron and Pettigrew when the dump-off option is a game-breaker.
