The final day and last 4 rounds are upon us for this 7 round mock draft. A big thanks to all who showed up and helped out yesterday, and my future thanks for stopping by today. The draft will be held at Turf Show Times again; when the link gets posted I'll post a comment linking to it.
Yesterday we mocked rounds 1-3 and the results are as follows:
With the 26th pick (1.26) the Green Bay Packers select Datone Jones, DE/DT, UCLA. Jones will be a RE in the base as well as a nickle interior pass rusher when we go to sub packages. He adds athleticism, speed, power, and toughness to the DL, and his presence up the middle (combined with Raji and Neal) should help our outside pass rushers sack the QB.
With the 55th pick (2.25) the Green Bay Packers select Travis Frederick, C, Wisconsin. Not much really needs to be said about this pick. Interior OL depth is almost non-existent and I don't believe EDS is a long term starting C for us. Frederick can develop for a year or start from day one, and his big presence in the middle should help out the running game.
With the 73rd pick (3.11) the Green Bay Packers select David Amerson, DB/S, NC State. Amerson is a polarizing player as most people will mention him as a boom or bust pick. Played safety in high school before playing CB at NC State. He has the height/weight/speed numbers and ball skills that we love out of our DB's. My plan for him is to transition to safety where is ball skills can shine and we can mask some of his weaknesses. Competition and talent are needed at the safety spot, and Amerson brings both.
The first 3 rounds saw us address the DE, C, and S spots - taking care of our more immediate "needs". My thoughts for the next four rounds are to address the RB, WR/TE, and OLB positions first and foremost. What do you think we should in the next four rounds, and which players do you want the Pack to draft? My player rankings chart is still available at Google Docs - the red shaded means players who have been picked and green shaded are our guys.
For reference sakes we have the following picks:
4.25 (122 overall) , 5.34 (167 overall) , 6.25 (193 overall) , and 7.26 (232 overall)
