Packers Will Wear 1929 Throwback Uniforms Against Browns

Joe Robbins

For the first time in a few years, the Packers will be going retro.

The last time the Green Bay Packers wore their throwback uniforms was against the St. Louis Rams in early 2011. The team announced today that they will be wearing the blue and gold (and brown) duds again for one game during the 2013 season:

That's week seven, for those of you who are counting, which is the third home game of the year and therefore a Green ticket package game. At least people with those tickets will get to see five regular season games with the Packers actually wearing Green.

Personally, I think that the uniform isn't that bad, but that it could be dramatically improved with one big change to the helmet. If they gave them the same matte, faux-leather paint job that the Washington Redskins wore in one game last season, that would be a huge upgrade. Instead, the uniform has featured a glossy brown helmet which hardly evokes any old-school imagery.

In these uniforms, the Packers are 2-0. They won the aforementioned 2011 game against St. Louis 24-3 and defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-16 in 2010 (which featured this immaculate Donald Driver catch-and-run).
