Cheese Curds: Green Bay Packers News and Links for July 24, 2013

Former Packers QB Matt Brown - USA TODAY Sports

The Packers made some news early this morning by waiving quarterback Matt Brown. That and more are here in today's news recap.

One day. There is only one more day until the Green Bay Packers report for training camp. That said, there was some mildly surprising news overnight, which cuts the Packers' roster down to 87 players (and down from four quarterbacks to three). As we wait and wind down for one more day until real football news and practices begin, here are the last big stories from around the Packer-covering world.

Packers cut rookie QB Brown | Press-Gazette
Reportedly, Matt Brown suffered an injury working out this off-season and wasn't going to be able to practice through most of training camp. As such, the Packers waived him instead of holding a roster spot for a QB who won't make the team.

Jolly is one of the guys listed...I wouldn't classify him as "young" but I definitely think he needs a huge training camp to make the roster. I was one of the few who left him off when we made our roster predictions.

NFL - Ranking the top organizations in the NFL based on 25-and-under talent - ESPN
The Packers rank 5th because of the following: "Two giant leaps spearheaded Green Bay's annual top 10 ranking: (1) the breakout year enjoyed by Randall Cobb, and (2) the show that Casey Hayward put on in his debut."

That's what we've got for today. Keep it locked here for our full 53-man roster prediction later today, and if you're around in prime-time, keep an eye out for our inaugural podcast tonight.
