Kickalicious in Green Bay for a tryout

Despite the apparent win in the Green Bay Packers pre-season kicking battle by Mason Crosby, the whole story gets a new twist today.

Håvard Rugland, the Norwegian Internet kicking super star, spent the pre-season with the Detroit Lions. He made all three of his attempts from 33, 49, and 50 yards. Rugland, however, was competing against veteran kicker David Akers for the job long held by Jason Hanson. After Rugland struggled in practice in the past week, the Lions decided to go with the more known commodity in Akers.

Rugland thrust himself into the spotlight last fall with a trick kicking video he uploaded to YouTube. After taking the Internet by storm, the New York Jets brought Rugland in for tryouts last season. In the offseason, both the Cleveland Browns and the Lions worked Rugland out. The Lions signed Rugland in April to compete for the open kicking job.
