Although I found the release of Jeremy Ross very surprising, I think it is best suited that we have a discussion on who should replace the return specialist. I read the most recent article discussing two players that the Pack have brought in for a workout, but I am not sold on either. Frankly, I'm not sold that we need to replace Ross' position. My reasoning is as follows:
- Kick returners aren't what they used to be; you can get value out of a player that can do both, and the smaller amount of returns these days lessens the chance of injury. The new return rules have basically deflated the value of once coveted players (Cribbs, Hester). I would like to give Franklin a chance assuming Lacy and Starks can stay healthy and become the main backs in the offense.
- We have needs elsewhere. Our secondary play (safeties especially) has been horrible, and our offensive line is a joke. I would like to see us invest in protecting Rodgers, or getting a seasoned, smart vet in the defensive backfield.
