APC Mock Draft: Picks 36-38 Feature Derek Carr, Kyle Van Noy, Jimmy Garoppolo

Brian Losness-US PRESSWIRE

The Raiders', Falcons', and Buccaneers' second-round picks are up in this afternoon's selections for our mock draft.

As round two of our NFL mock draft rolls along, we find a miniature run on quarterbacks in the early portion of the round. In actuality, it seems feasible that some of these teams might trade up to jockey for position in order to draft one of the second-tier QBs, but in this case we're sticking to the posted order.

Remember that the Packers hold pick number 53 in round two, so their pick will be up in a few days. In the meantime, check out our projections for Picks 36, 37, and 38.

#36: Oakland Raiders (Brendan)

Derek Carr, quarterback, Fresno State

Here's what Brendan had to say on this selection:

Though he'll sit behind Schaub for at least a year, the Raiders get their young QB to pair up with Watkins and build for the future.

Previous selection:
1.05 Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

#37: Atlanta Falcons (Jason)

Kyle Van Noy, outside linebacker, Brigham Young University

Jason went in-depth with his analysis of this pick:

One of the few certainties about this year's draft is the Falcons desire to add a pass rusher with one of their early picks. While Jadeveon Clowney may become that player as part of a draft day trade, we don't have the luxury of projecting such a move here. Atlanta solidified its offensive line in round one, so selecting an edge rusher makes considerable sense here.

Kyle Van Noy is fairly young by BYU standards. He declined to go on mission like many of his cougar teammates, and other than an honor code violation that cost him his 2009 season, he's missed little time. Van Noy is lighter than most 3-4 outside linebackers, but he also fairs far better in pass coverage as a result. BYU moved him all around the front seven during his college career. The only spot Van Noy didn't play many snaps at is nose tackle. Defensive coordinators love versatility and refinement in their players, and Van Noy might be the best combination of those two qualities of anyone in this draft class.

Previous selection:
1.06 Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn

#38 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Josh)

Jimmy Garoppolo, quarterback, Eastern Illinois

Josh's explanation is below:

With Carr off the board, Jimmy G is the next best QB available and the Bucs have to think long term after signing 34-year-old Josh McCown as their starter in 2014.

Previous selection:
1.07 Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M
