As picks tick away in Acme Packing Company's mock draft, so too do desirable prospects for the Green Bay Packers who sit with the 53rd pick in the draft. In the first three picks today, we find one draftee who would have been a big help for the Packers' secondary and another whose receiving skills might have made him a good fit in Green Bay.
As we have been doing with our second-rounders, each of the authors responsible for his pick justified it in some small way below.
#39: Jacksonville Jaguars (Dan)
Davante Adams, wide receiver, Fresno State
With two talented quarterbacks projected to be taken off the board right before the Jaguars' second-round pick, they had no choice but to retool one of the weakest wide reciever units in the NFL. Adams is young and raw, but very talented and could be a nice future target for the Jaguars' next franchise QB (if they can locate one).
1.03 Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo
#40: Minnesota Vikings (Aron)
David Yankey, guard, Stanford
New quarterback? Yeah, he's going to need some protection. A linebacker here would be nice also.
1.08 Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
#41: Buffalo Bills (Tex)
Jimmie Ward, safety, Northern Illinois
The Bills addressed the receiver position in a trade for Mike Williams and the tackle position in round one. Now they look to the defense, where Ward's value and their need at safety match up perfectly.
1.09 Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
