Packers Dream Team

First off…I hate the cliché "Dream Team" but unfortunately "Perfectly Aligned Roster Composed of Legendary Green Bay Packers" doesn’t have the same ring…

With that being said…here is my ALL-TIME roster of Green Bay Packers.

QB - Aaron Rodgers

- I don't think this requires much discussion...Rodgers is pretty much the perfect QB in so many ways. He can make ALL the throws, he reads the field ideally, he has elite pocket awareness, he has above average mobility AND he's got a kick ass touch down celebration!

QB2 - Brett Favre

-The easy choice would be Bart Starr but in my offense...I need a live arm and who better than the ol' gunslinger to come into the game in the 4th qtr and squeeze that impossible throw into triple coverage to win the game? Brett was a lot of things but no one kept you at the edge of your seat like Favre.

RB - Jim Taylor

- The packers have an entire stable of HoF running backs but very few were as tough as Taylor and on the frozen tundra, you need a man that can move the pile in January. Taylor didn't have a lot of splash plays but he made each potential tackler "earn" his paycheck. This is a guy that could consistently carry the ball 20+ times a game.

RB2 - Eddy Lacy

- I know the kid is young and I have at least 20 other Packers that have a greater pedigree but who better to give Taylor a breather then a mini wrecking ball? In the recent past, it has been clear that Lacy has the tools to be a very successful runner but also a pass-catcher. This is ideal in any offense but especially the one I envision the Packers running.

RB3 - Ahman Green

- Maybe the perfect "3rd down back" due to his elusiveness and his pass-catching ability. I can't think of a quicker Packer RB then Green in his prime.

FB – Paul Hornung

- He did it all. No other player on this team probably did as much as the "Golden Boy" to help a team win like Hornung did. He has the ability to play numerous positions on this team but makes his start at Fullback.

WR1 – Don Hutson

-Again…this one doesn’t really need much explanation. Top 5 WR EVER to play in the NFL.

WR2 – James Lofton

- James Lofton and Don Hutson on the outsides? It wouldn’t be very fair for opposing defenses but Lofton deserves to be recognized on this list because he averaged 1k yds and 5 tds in 9 seasons for GB in an era that didn’t have the soft rules we see today. Lofton had an uncanny ability to "attack" the football and catch it at its highest peak.

WR3 – Donald Driver

- I cannot imagine a more perfect slot receiver then Donald Driver. He had sure hands, ran crisp routes but most important of all…he was tough as nails and was clutch!

WR4 – Jordy Nelson

- Who else would you have as your 4th string wr other than the long-strider? He’s tough, he’s got that "deceptive" speed and a ton of MOXY! Jordy could easily be the number one guy on ANY team but with Aaron Rodgers on this team, he need’s his most dependable receiver.

TE – Ron Kramer

- Probably the weakest position on this team due to the fact most of the Green Bay Tight Ends were very similar in playing style and/or production. When in doubt, select a Lombardi Packer!

TE2 – Jermichael Finley

- Finley had the potential to be one of the best Tight Ends to ever play in Green Bay due to his freakish athleticism. There are probably more deserving players but Finley stretched defenses unlike any other Green Bay TE.

LT – Chad Clifton

Clifty wasn’t the strongest, the fastest or the biggest but one thing he did better than the rest was minimizing his mistakes. I cannot count the games that I watched where I wouldn’t hear his name mentioned and for an offensive lineman…that’s one of the best compliments you can receive.

LG – Jerry Kramer

Kramer made the "Packer Sweep" work. He was instinctive, quick footed and nasty as they came. If you need that yard, you follow Kramer and you’d get it!

C – Jim Ringo

- Another Lombardi Packer but for good cause. 10 pro-bowls (7 with GB) and one of the most humble players to don the green and gold. There may be questions on if this guy had the size to play in today’s game but I’d liken him to Jeff Saturday who, although smaller than average, put together a HoF career as well.

RG – Josh Sitton

- On of the most underrated players in the NFL today and one of the best lineman to every play for Green Bay. He’s nasty, tough and has the mobility needed to play in Green Bay.

RT – Forrest Gregg

-Yet another player that doesn’t need many words of encouragement. The best player Lombardi ever coached…that should be enough.

LE – Reggie White

- Reggie normally lined up at RE but let’s be honest…he’d gonna play every position on that DLine so I’m putting him here because he deserves to be mentioned first. This dude took on triple teams like Charlie Sheen took on hookers. He couldn’t be stopped.

DT – Henry Jordan

- Stout against the run but quick enough to penetrate the offensive line. Lombardi thought Jordan was one of the smartest players he ever coached which let’s me believe Jordan could play in ANY era.

DT - Gilbert Brown

- Nobody ran on Gilbert Brown (besides Terrel Davis in SB XXXII) and he’d be the anchor on that Defensive line because he probably weighed more than the rest combined!

RE - Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila/Aaron Kampman

- Okay..I cheated here but I couldn’t put KGB without Kampman…Aaron was the bull-rusher and KGB was the speed rusher. Together? They become the perfect tandem.

WLB – Clay Matthews

- Thor reincarnated would play the Von Miller elephant linebacker in this defense but luckily for the Packers…CMIII can pretty much handle anything you need him to do. He plays the run well, gets outside kick as can be and can cover sideline to sideline.

MLB – Ray Nitschke

- He deserves on this list because he would come back from the dead to rip my head off if he wasn’t…

SLB – AJ Hawk

- Nah I’m just kidding…wanted to make sure you were still reading.

SLB – Dave Robinson

-Dave played well beyond his years and reinvented the outside linebacker position. He covered, tackled and his instincts (see the NFC championship game in 1966) made him the HoF linebacker we know him to be.

CB1 – Herb Adderley

- Started his career off as a running back and used that experience to help him return interceptions to the house! He had soft hands and was the original "shut-down" corner.

CB2 – Charles Woodson

- Chuck had a nose for the ball but unlike most cornerbacks also had a nose for the quarterback. The ONLY player NFL history with 50+ interceptions and 20+ sacks. His versatility allows him to roam the field in search of his victims.

CB3 – Al Harris

- One of the best "press" cornerbacks to play in recent years and he would allow Woodson the ability to move around the field as he shut down the right side.

FS – Nick Collins

-The typical "center-fielder" played the position as well as any other safety but had the ability to take any pick to the house. His career (like sterling sharpes) ended waaaay too early but his position is safe on this team.

SS – Willie Wood

- Wood mainly played FS while with the packers but his sure tackling makes him idle at the SS spot. He has the common feature of this defensive backfield by being able to turn any interception into a touchdown.

K – Ryan Longwell

-Even though he is a shape shifter…he still belongs on this list because I can’t think of any other kicker, for the Packers, that was as consistent.

P – LMAO!

- You think this team is gonna punt? Hilarious!

KR – Desmond Howard

-Des makes the team as our third Heisman winner because he had the ability (for one year at least) to take any ball to paydirt.

* Bonus Selection –

Wilner Burke Band Director (If he made the Packers HoF he’s good enough for my crew!)

Sorry for any typos or general mistakes…I just ran out of time but will try to fix any errors later!
