While the Packers offense is Super Bowl worthy, we all know the key to our return to the big game is fixing that defense. TT has done a tremendous job building this team since he was hired and it got us a championship along with 6 postseason appearances and 4 division titles. Anyone that doesn't like Ted's draft and develop strategy clearly doesn't understand or appreciate how hard it is to accomplish the things he's done. Sure, defensive drafting has been hit and miss for him and that 2012 class is still up for debate but we can't pass on judgment to the likes of Worthy, Perry, Hayward without actually seeing them all play a full season together.
I look at that coupled with the development of Datone Jones in his 2nd year and the continued emergence of Mike Daniels and we may be a better team up front but will need to shore it up via draft/FA pickups. With BJ Raji, Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly, and CJ Wilson looking to hit the road we will need to acquire additional bodies. Not sure about Boyd, but we definitely are going to need a NT added to this group as Pickett and Raji were the true NT bodies we once had. Barring us resigning one of them, I think that when we look at the draft, we have a lot of options to choose from. Of course Safety is arguably our biggest need too but as we witnessed with Seattle's defense, pressure upfront can cause great things for the back end. Personally, I would like to see Ra'Shede Hageman/CJ Mosley/Calvin Pryor as the top options in the 1st round barring any unforeseen slides from top rated players. If we can shore up D-line/ILB/Safety in no particular order then I think we should expect improvement defensively.
Overall, I trust in what TT has done and I hate people who claim that we are "wasting" Rodgers career or the people that say Rodgers should have 2-3 rings by now. I get it, in a perfect world with Aaron Rodgers, we would have a dynasty. That's all nice but are you kidding me? People talk as if there's an easy 2+2 equation to fixing everything and expect the championships to come every year. The fact that we just won the super bowl only 4 years ago isn't enough for some people. Never mind that we have a league leading 13 Championships including 4 Super Bowls and 5 Super Bowl appearances. I honestly believe realistically however that at age 30 and over the latter half of Rodgers career, he can get 2 more rings. I think he's that kind of player that will play into his late 30's. If you think about it, if GB manages to fix their defense and win it next year, all of a sudden that 2 more rings statement becomes just one more. TT's contract expires after the 2015 season and I think he will kick it into high gear because I have some doubt he returns.
I have complete faith in this front office to fix the issues that are staring us in the face and get back to the style of play we are used to seeing. Sorry but I had to let out some steam at the end just cause I'm constantly tired of hearing bad things said about Thompson and McCarthy especially. Let's all have a great offseason and look forward to hopefully an injury-bug free season :)
