Packers 2014 Roster Predictions: Starks, Harris Back Up Lacy at Running Back

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

James Starks is likely to be handed the Packers' backup running back job behind Eddie Lacy.

To prepare for training camp, we will be breaking down every player on the Green Bay Packers' 90-man roster in more detail, looking at contract terms and 2013 statistics, before we make our prediction for which players will make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp.

After previewing the new and returning backs for the Green Bay Packers heading into training camp, the Acme Packing Company staff has put together a consensus list of the players we believe will be on the 53-man roster from the backfield. Those players (who probably don't shock you) are listed below:

Projected Starters: Eddie Lacy (RB), John Kuhn (FB)

Projected Backups: James StarksDuJuan Harris

The Packers will more than likely head into the season with a three back rotation consisting of Lacy, Starks and Harris. John Kuhn will serve as the fullback in the offense once again and will be the lead blocker for the tailbacks and quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Lacy is no doubt the unquestioned starter, and even though DuJuan Harris had an impressive camp, his physical style will best be suited probably as the third option behind the more versatile James Starks.

If Starks and Harris manage to stay reasonable healthy this upcoming season, it's really going to be a fun backfield to watch in Green Bay once everything unfolds. They certainly have the players to have one of the best mixes in the league, but they just need them to be on the field together first.

Released: Michael Hill, Rajion NealLaDarius Perkins, Ina Liaina

The reason why Michael Hill, Rajion Neal, Ladarius Perkins, and Ina Liaina didn't make the cut is because of their inexperience. All of them are still young players who still need reps of preparation and will have to wait for a crack in the roster to show what they potentially have at the next level (especially with Neal and Perkins as rookies). All four backs that we selected are experienced when it comes to the offense, and thus, making them more reliable. As far as the fullback spot, Liaina is going to have a very tough task in trying to surpass Kuhn for the starting job with him being already familiar with Rodgers. Yet, Kuhn did only return on a one-year deal, so Liaina can still show the Packers something that could give him a shot going forward to potentially take over in the future. So that's something that should not be ruled out just yet.
