Nelson Could Miss Jaguars Game, Jennings Opts for Surgery

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy's press conference on Thursday yielded mixed results on the injury front. Jordy Nelson was on the injury report on Wednesday because he aggravated his hamstring in practice. That injury now appears to be worse than the coaches thought, since he had to sit out practice today. McCarthy told reporters that Nelson will not practice on Friday and will test his injured hammy on Saturday at the earliest.

McCarthy also addressed Greg Jennings' lingering groin injury, saying that Jennings was given the option to have surgery or to let it heal on its own. Jennings spoke after the coach and confirmed that he will be having surgery next week Wednesday. There was no timetable given for Jennings' return, but he indicated that he should not have rushed to get back on the field for the Seattle game, suggesting that it may have caused him a serious setback.

Donald Driver, who was on the injury report with a head issue, practiced fully and will be ready to go on Sunday. If Nelson can't play, Driver will likely get his best chance to make an impact so far this season.

Once he addressed the receiving corps, McCarthy moved on to the defense, which is starting to regain some key players. He said that B.J. Raji practiced well, and that he was "jumping around' and "back to his old self", as quoted by Tyler Dunne of the Journal-Sentinel. Mike Neal also appears to be ready to play on Sunday.

As for other key players on the defense, CB Sam Shields and OLB Nick Perry both were held out of practice again on Thursday, along with RB James Starks. Starks did not appear on the injury report on Wednesday, so it remains to be seen what his issue was on Thursday.

We'll have more details on the Packers' slew of injuries as Sunday approaches.
