Packers Injury Report: Nick Perry and Brad Jones Questionable for Viking Game

Tom Lynn

The Packers got a surprise shot in the arm today on defense, and they may get two starting linebackers back for Sunday's game in Minnesota.

The Green Bay Packers received welcome news on the injury front on Friday, as Nick Perry returned to the practice field for the first time since injuring his foot. The Packers' outside linebackers struggled last week without Perry or Clay Matthews, and getting one of the two back would help the pass rush significantly, as well as help the unit contain Adrian Peterson to the interior of the field.

However, Perry's return to practice is no guarantee that he will see the field on Sunday afternoon. In his press conference, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said that Perry was "limited" in practice today, but that he "looked good" and has a chance to play on Sunday. He was therefore listed as Questionable for the week 8 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Here is the full injury report for the Packers as announced in Friday's press conference. The report saw one name added today: safety Jerron McMillian was excused for personal reasons, but appears likely to play on Sunday. The other good news is that cornerback Casey Hayward is listed as Probable, and should see the playing field for the first time this year, while running back James Starks looks to be ready to go after his knee injury suffered in week 3.

Packers' Injury Report

Player Position Injury Game Status
Jarrett Bush CB Hamstring Probable
Casey Hayward CB Hamstring Probable
Jerron McMillian S Personal (undisclosed) Probable
James Starks RB Knee Probable
Brad Jones ILB Hamstring Questionable
Nick Perry OLB Foot Questionable
James Jones WR Knee Doubtful
Jermichael Finley TE Neck Out
Clay Matthews OLB Thumb Out
Ryan Taylor TE Knee Out

The Vikings, on the other hand, somehow have more players on their injury report than the Packers do. This is a rather staggering development at face value, but upon closer inspection you'll see that most of these players are listed as probable. The one major bit of news is that Josh Freeman has indeed been ruled out for Sunday's game, leaving Christian Ponder as the sure starter at quarterback for Minnesota.

Vikings' Injury Report

We'll be back as early as possible with any additional injury updates and we will have the list of inactive players as soon as it is announced on Sunday afternoon.
