Blaine Gabbert says "**** it", throws interception.

JACKSONVILLE -- In what is likely his last chance at starting at QB in the NFL, Blaine Gabbert is taking a different offseason approach than one might think. Arriving to camp an hour late with a dangerous new look and an anti-authoritative attitude, Gabbert hasn't made a great impression on the people he'll need to win over. "He came in with his hair gelled back, a leather jacket, straight leg jeans, sunglasses, and he picked up smoking." says new Head Coach Gus Bradley. "I asked him why he was an hour late and he told me to "Sit on it, gramps". I'm only 46 years old."

"We were trying to get him to join the offensive drills, but he was busy playing marbles in front of a convenience store with a couple of shady characters." says Jedd Fish, the Jaguars new Offensive Coordinator. "Once we finally got him in, he threw a quick interception, shrugged his shoulders, called me a "pig", and said something about the Sharks." Yes, it seems that a once promising NFL QB has decided, like many before him, to coast into his role as a middling backup that bounces around between teams.

"I don't care about this NFL game no more.", said Gabbert, while obnoxiously chewing gum every other word. "You see here, I have a new job. Loitering and hassling shop keeps with my crew." When asked if there was anything he regretted about his brief NFL career, Gabbert did admit it would've been nice to be drafted before the NFL's rookie pay scale kicked in. "I dunno, I guess you see guys like Vince Young and Matt Leinhart. Guys who flamed out quick, but had all of that guaranteed money for being top picks. Would've been nice, you know. I've already spent most of my money in loitering tickets, milkshakes, and a pair of Buddy Holly worn glasses. I don't even know who he is!"

What does Acme Packing Company think of Mike McCarthy?

Hey Packer fans! Looking forward to reading your insights on your head coach.

Hello. I am ak4niner, a die-hard 49er fan. I am going to be posting this over all 32 SBN NFL sites to try to answer a question that I have had for the past year or so.

How do coaches rank among fans?

I’m going to do a little twist on this though. I am not going to set up a ranking system (like I think Harbaugh is #1, blah blah blah), or have you discuss any coaches other than your own. I want to know what the fans of your team think of your coach. After a week or two (timing based off of when I can sneak away to work on this) I am going to look over all 32 fanposts I have made and use the comments to make an “expert” analysis of what fans think of their coach. (Expert meaning I use my 3 synapses to write it, and the monkeys do the editing.)

There are only two things I ask.

One, be honest. I don’t care what direction the posts take us down, but be honest. If you think your coach is the greatest of all time, say so! If you think he doesn’t even deserve to be a dog catcher, then let us know. I am going to try to not let any personal bias creep in when doing the final document.

Two, please only fans of this team comment here. I want to do this ranking based off of each team’s opinion of their own coach. I only ask this so I can save myself time generating the final document. I will filter the comments as necessary.

Thank you for your help in this.

Washington considers less controversial racial slur.

WAHINGTON, DC -- Amid renewed talks of racial and cultural insensitivity surrounding the use of the term "Redskins" for a football team, many have been calling for team owner Daniel Snyder to change the teams longstanding name. Snyder, after initially refusing, made a concession to those opposed Friday. "I'm okay with the change as long as we can find another slur to replace it with." Snyder announced at press conference. "Preferably something from the 30's or 40's that nobody remembers as an actual slur. You know, something like Mick or Dago."

"I'd be okay with Dago", said Tina, 53. "Most people will just think of it as a type of sandwich, not an offensive name for an Italian person." Third string Quarterback, sex God, and "the biggest dick in the west" (Ed Note - He wouldn't interview unless those last two were put in), Rex Grossman didn't seem to mind, saying "Those guys who do all this bitching about the name need to just go out and get laid, bro. Last week, I banged an Indian chick, or at least I think she was. Anyways, where's my goddamn medal?"

Others were more concerned about another tradition. "I don't really care what the name is as long as we keep raising our expectations every season, only for them to hopelessly crushed." Says Daniel, 58, a lifelong Redskins fan. "I mean, just look at RGIII. Amazing, right? Too bad his knee will be goo in a year or two."

Regardless of their name change, hopeless mediocrity amid high expectations is one tradition set to continue as the Redskins near a 4 year, 56 million contract with 36 year old WR Randy Moss.

Ponder vows to help Peterson gain 2,500 yards.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Last season as Adrian Peterson fell just short of breaking Eric Dickerson's single season rushing yards record, he vowed to come back next season and get 2,500. "I don't doubt him for a second", says teammate Kyle Rudolph, "For him to come back from that serious of an injury and do all of that is just a sign of the determination he has." "I know I wouldn't wanna play him, but I don't really play the run at all anyways, so whatevs.", said Jared Allen.

When asked about this gameplan, Head Coach Leslie Frazier has this to say, "We're not a Superbowl team. We know that. You know that. So, instead of trying for that, we're going to just help our franchise player reach a monumental accomplishment at the expense of another lesser players dignity."

Jamarcus Russell told to gain back fifty pounds.

CHICAGO, IL -- Jamarcus Russell's attempt at an NFL comeback has hit another road bump. After trying out this past week for the Chicago Bears, Russell was not given an NFL contract. Instead, Russell was told by Chicago that it might be better for him to add back on the weight he lost in order to play for a position on the offensive line.

"It was shocking to me.", said Russel, 27, "I've never even played that position." New Bears GM Phil Emery had this to say, "We really appreciate the work Jamarcus is doing. It's just that we already have a QB who has proven to be entirely apathetic at his position. I know Jamarcus is trying to improve, but I just can't shake the image of him in Oakland glumly eating a sandwich after throwing his third interception." While Emery didn't see him as a potential QB, he saw further potential elsewhere. "I know he's never actually played on the line before, but he was over 300 lbs and I'm thinking to myself, he can't possible be worse than Jamarcus Webb, right?"

While Russell wasn't excited about the idea of giving up his chance at becoming a QB again, he was pretty ecstatic at the idea of going on a Willy Wonka-esque spree through a candy shop that the Bears were paying the bill on. "Might as well get something out of this, right?" said Russell, mouth half full of Kit Kats.

We we tried to reach current Bears QB Jay Cutler for comment, but new wife Kristin Kavillari told us he was busy sitting on his cat tree batting at a ball of yarn.

Long National Nightmare is Over.

FOXBORO, MA -- After months of speculation on the future of his NFL career, Tim Tebow is on an NFL roster, signing Monday with the New England Patriots. "I couldn't be more blessed to have this opportunity", said Tebow at a press conference following the signing. "I can't wait to get out there and start throwing some wobbly, inaccurate balls."

Others in the area shared his enthusiasm. Steve, 42, speculated on the possibilities of two games against the Jets. "Man, I can't wait to see Tim get his revenge. That look he gives them on the sidelines, while Brady dismantles them is gonna be priceless." Others were more cautious with their optimism. Sal, 47, "He kinda fackin sucks, but at least it's not anothah one of them dahkies."

Nobody was more excited about the Tebow signing than ESPN, a subsidiary of Tebow's national fan club. "We didn't have anything to talk about that day" said one ESPN employee who declined to be identified. "I mean, we talked a little about the NBA Finals, but we're waiting for Lebron to lose before we really cover that. Then the Sox and Yankees were both off. What were we gonna cover? Hockey?" Luckily, like another important figure in Christianity, Tebow's career rose from the grave. We tried contacting Skip Bayless, Tebow's biggest supporter, but all we heard on the phone were muffled groans and a faint vibrating sound.

Over at Jets camp, it was business as usual as Rex Ryan sat at the practice field preparing a large pig to be eaten later that day and Mark Sanchez had just thrown his fifth interception of the day. "I'm really happy for him", said Sanchez after being benched for his seventh interception. "He's a good guy and I look forward to sharing glances at one another from our respective sidelines.

Packers sign UDFA WR that ran a 4.19 forty twice at Minnesota Pro Day

I just saw this, wow that is fast. 4.19 twice? He seems like a very solid player but with suspect numbers. Maybe he will fall through the cracks like L.J. Fort from last year. L.J. Fort was the linebacker from Northern Iowa that ended up starting week one for the Browns at linebacker, he too was a small school standout. He had better stats, but this kid could be a very good practice squad player. I love that the Front Office tries to bring in athletic players. Last year they brought in that basketball player Dale Moss. Here is an interview I found of Terrell Sinkfield, the newest member of the Packers.

http://nfldraftzone.com/draft-news/exclusive-interview-northern-iowa-wr-terrell-sinkfield/

Obviously at this time most if not all of this is pretty speculative at this point. Also the health of Bishop. Also does Perry improve? if Bishop is healthy and Perry comes through and lives up to his potental, that would leave us with a pretty formidable set of LBers. Mathews Bishop Hawk/jones Perry. thats alot of size speed guess with great stregnth out of Bishop and Perry. I'm wondering will jones or hawk be playing more, of course if Bishop isn't healthy, or hasnt recovered properly they will both start. If healthy i think they have a really good group of LBers. In my opinion i would prefer mathews bishop jones perry. What do you think of the current group, which ILB do you want to ser or expect to see this year?

UDFA Breakdown

The draft has passed us, and now we all need some info on some of the players we likely haven't heard of before. I missed some UDFAs.

Also we're bored...

Breakin' it down like some Stone Cold glass.

Andy Mulumba: 6'4" 260 lbs DE/OLB at Eastern Michigan

via www2.pictures.zimbio.com

He's from the Congo! He started playing football "late" (10th grade), but he was considered one of the top prospects for the CFL draft, and came it at #2 by Winnipeg. If you want a recent comparison he is akin to Margus Hunt out of SMU. Raw, though I wouldn't say his ceiling is obviously higher than Hunt's. He also speaks four languages. If OLB wasn't as strapped for depth I'd say his shot of making the team was lower, but given that there are only three "vets" on the team, (Matthews, Perry, Moses) it's likely he might make the roster even with Nate Palmer (Illinois State) being drafted this year. All the current listed OLBs are DE converts including Mike Neal, though I suspect Neal probably won't be an OLB coming into the season. I'd do a So'oto joke, or a Moses joke, but simply writing the previous parts means the job is done.

Jake Stoneburner: 6' 4" 250 lbs TE Ohio State

via si0.twimg.com

Another candidate to make the roster. While in recent years the TEs have been stacked, Finley's contract ends this season and he hasn't exactly inspired confidence from #12, right or wrong. Quarless is back after a horrifying injury, but he's had a season off of football. D.J. Williams hasn't been the force the team was hoping for, and Tom "Twitter" Crabtree is gone. That doesn't leave as much depth as one would like. Enter Jake Stoneburner; high school WR, college TE. He's one of those "tweeners" analysts hate until proven wrong and then it's some godsend quality. Urban Meyer kept going on how he was a top 100 prospect. Let's hope he's correct.

Angelo Pease: 5' 11" 215 RB lbs Kansas State

Jordy Nelson did not play with him at K. State. If this were last year, I would say he a had a shot to make the team. Green was recovering, Grant was gone, Starks was injured, but then Cedric Benson got signed. One season later, Benson is NOT (you heard it here kids) going to be signed, and we're talking about cutting one, or (unlikely) two of these people. Starks is likely on the chopping block. I am not going to forget about Dujuan Harris, who showed flashes of talent in his few games, but the picks of Lacy and Franklin probably gave the rest of the backs pause. There's not a great deal of info on him. He did play as the "Wildcat" QB at K. State and McCarthy said he confused him for Lacy during a practice. That could be good thing for him, or a really bad thing for Lacy. Let's assume the best. Seriously the last 1000 yard rusher was Grant?

Matt Brown: 6' 4" 220 lbs QB Illinois State

Here's where it gets interesting. He's one of three players taken from a single non-division I school. Nate Palmer and fellow player S Ben Ericksen (didn't pass physical, thanks for reminding me Tex) all came from Illinois State. Apparently UW-W and its 13 awesome bars were too much for Thompson and his crew to take in. There's not a lot of info on this guy. He was probably scouted by default because Palmer was being looked at. He did throw for over, get this, 2000 yards in four consecutive seasons. Yeah, you or I probably couldn't do it, but we're mean and this is football. It would be a longshot for him to make the team given that B.J. Coleman (upside) and Graham Harrell (experience?) have advantages over him.

Patrick Lewis: 6' 2" 312 lbs C Texas A&M

The only A&M game I saw last year was the triumph over Alabama. That said I don't recall too much about the o-line play. Here's the skinny: he used to play guard, and then was moved to center. Given the lack of depth at C, maybe on the P.S.?

Gilbert Pena: 6' 4" 317 lbs DT Ole Miss

Again, I have no idea what he really did at Oxford. Started seven times at NT and had two sacks. Still he's not big enough to be a NT in the NFL. With Josh Boyd drafted in the 5th round of out Mississippi State, it's unlikely he'll make the roster given his competition.

Lane Taylor: 6' 3" 324 lbs G OKS

Not much here. Competition guy at best. Grew 30 lbs from freshman year to current year. The Big XII isn't exactly the greatest defensive conference in the world, so expect his time in GB to be short unless he has a stellar preseason and camp.

Jeremy Vujnovich: 6' 1" 5 290 lbs OT Louisiana College

DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTH at best. It's really best of the rest from here on out.

Myles White: 6' 1" 182 lbs WR LA-Tech

Played in the dying, or dead WAC conference. A 4.42 dash. He transferred from Michigan State, from what I assume is due to playing time. Perhaps he left because Kirk Cousins departed, but I don't have any real info on that. Even with the losses of Driver and Jennings, he still has to steal spots from Ross, who has PR/KS skills, and Boykin, who made the team last year despite fan suppositions. He'll have to prove his worth against Ken Dorsey (7th) and Charles Johnson (7th) to make the team.

James Winchester: 6' 3" 210 lbs LS OKS

Apparently Brett isn't that "Goode" anymore. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Seriously, why? Maybe he's going to play some other position. There is zero info on this guy.

Devin Willis: 6' 0" 178 lbs CB N. Arizona

There is Sam Shields. There is Tramon Williams. There is Casey Hayward. There is Davon House. There is Loyce Means. There is "He-who-shall-not-be-named". There is Micah Hyde. Perhaps they are seeing if he can be a WR, or some sort of special teams guy. Either way, he is undersized as an NFL player.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Promoted in the interest of generating some discussion over a slow weekend.

1. Eddie Lacy, a 5-foot-11, 230-pound rookie, was selected by the Packers in the second round (No. 61 overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama. He earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors as a junior in 2012 after rushing for 1,322 yards and 17 TDs on 204 carries (6.5 avg.).

2.Johnathan Franklin,5-10, 205, UCLA, Los Angeles, Calif.R

Established himself as one of the top running backs in the nation ... Doak Walker Award finalist in 2012 ... Possesses fine speed, quickness and explosiveness ... 45 career starts ... Three career 200-yard plus rushing games, two in 2012 ... Became UCLA's all-time leading rusher during the 2012 Arizona game ... 19 career 100-yard rushing games, one shy of Gaston Green's school record ... Fifth on the all-time Pac-12 rushing list ... Became UCLA's all-time single-season rusher and all-time leader in all-purpose yards in the Pac-12 Championship Game at Stanford; all while setting a school record with his ninth 100-yard rushing game of the season.

3.DuJuan Harris, a 5-foot-8, 203-pound first-year player out of Troy University, played in five games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011, rushing for 42 yards on nine carries (4.7 avg.) and catching one pass for 4 yards. He spent the opening 11 games of the ’11 season on Jacksonville’s practice squad. Harris also was with the Pittsburgh Steelers briefly during the 2012 preseason after being claimed off waivers from Jacksonville on Aug. 27. A four-year letterman at Troy, he rushed for 2,635 yards and 27 TDs on 540 carries (4.9 avg.) and caught 79 passes for 553 yards (7.0 avg.) and five TDs during his career. He will wear No. 26 for the Packers.

4.Alex Green,6 ft 0,225 lb,Hawaii

Appeared in four games as a rookie before sustaining a season-ending knee injury blocking on a kickoff return at Minnesota in Week 7.

Rushed for 1,199 yards and 18 TDs as a senior at Hawaii in 2010, ranking second in school history for rushing yards in a single season and tying the single-season school mark for rushing TDs.

His average of 8.2 yards per carry in 2010 ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division I-A among players with 100 or more carries.

Broke a 60-year-old single-game school record with 327 rushing yards at New Mexico State in 2010, surpassed in WAC history by only TCU’s LaDainian Tomlinson (406) and San Diego State’s Marshall Faulk (386).

Attended the same junior college, Butte College in Oroville, Calif., as QB Aaron Rodgers.

Became the first player in Packers history drafted from the University of Hawaii.

He posted 333 rushing yards on 60 carries (5.6 avg.) as a senior. Pease played two seasons at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College (2009-10), rushing for 834 yards and nine TDs on 155 carries (5.4 avg.) in 2010.

Looking ahead to the 2013 season it's never too early to look into a teams roster to try and predict which players will make the 53 man roster. Check out this wonderful chart that breaks down how the 2013 Packers roster has been assembled. Currently, 68 of the 87 players are comprised from draft picks or undrafted college free agents, 17 from free agency and 2 off waivers or another teams practice squad. There are 30 players signed in 2013, 19 in 2012, 8 in 2011, 10 in 2010 and 19 players left over from the previous decade.

Who is Green Bay Packers Linebacker Andy Mulumba?

I just noticed this interview with Andy Mulumba the UDFA linebacker from the MAC division. I thought it was a pretty good read. I love the video, and think the kid can play. I love how the Packers will find these players from out of nowhere and turn them into something. They do it all the time, you have wonder if Mulumba can make the roster or at least the practice squad.

http://nfldraftzone.com/draft-news/who-is-green-bay-packers-linebacker-andy-mulumba/

Mike Neal: New Outside Linebacker

If you're a Packer fan, unless you've been living on another planet you know that Mike Neal has been playing at Outside Linebacker. Admittedly my first thought about this is that it's insane to take a 294 lbs Defensive End and play him at A position where 280 lbs is a very heavy player. After reading more and thinking about it a bit more, I am more optimistic about this move.

Granted, from my posts you can tell that I am a glass half full type person. That being said, lets look at Mike Neal and see how this move may be a wildly successful move for the Pack.

1. One of the knocks on Mike Neal has been that he lacks ability in stopping the run. Now I realize that playing OLB will require Neal to be able to not only stop the run but also be able to cover Receivers. The coaches have insight to these players that we fans do not. The way I see it if I connect the dots is that the coaching staff believes that if Neal takes his hand out of the dirt and stands up, he'll have a lot more vision of what's going on with the offense. With a better view of what's going on perhaps this will help Neal be better in run coverage. It seems obvious to me that the coaches believe he has the speed to cover as a Linebacker in some situations. So perhaps what is going on here is that the coaches think that with greater vision, Mike Neal will be able to better anticipate what's happening and improve in run coverage. At the same time the defense will better be able to take advantage of his pass rushing skills from the outside which will, in turn, help draw blocking away from Matthews at times to help him be more effective.

2. The more obvious use of this development comes from what we've seen from Capers in his defensive strategies. I believe that he is looking to accomplish with this move is to be able to create confusion on the opposing offensive line. By using Neal at Linebacker I think that Capers will be able to take advantage of a multitude of blitz packages that include Neal, Matthews, Datone Jones, Perry, and perhaps even Raji rushing the passer from all different directions in different combinations. When you include the options of blitzing with any of the DBs, this could make for a very exciting and aggressive defense. So, not only will Capers be able to use a Safety or Cornerback to blitz along with Linebackers, but now the opposing offensive lines will not even know if a hulking Defensive End is playing D line or if he's playing cover Linebacker or blitzing Linebacker.

So, after thinking about this move for awhile, I realize there is a lot of upside from this move. I, personally, hope that this move works out for the Packers and Mike Neal.
