SB Nation Officially Opposes SOPA

If you've been to Google's main page, or to Wikipedia, you'd see there's a protest today on the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). While we aren't taking the same visible measures here at SB Nation or Acme Packing Company, our parent company, Vox Media, opposes the proposed law too. From SB Nation:

Vox Media may find our domain names to be the subject of an in rem lawsuit as a result of users posting unlawful video clips. We may find that payment providers proactively turn off payment accounts for any sites that have been the subject of a recent copyright claim, however frivolous. We may find that a service provider decides to redirect our domain names away from our content as a knee-jerk reaction to a single unsubstantiated complaint.

This is an unusual topic, I never stray into politics, but this is something that could shut down this website due to the actions of any member who were to post content they didn't own the rights to. There would be substantial changes at Acme Packing Company if this law were passed.

The Ultimate Sports Social Media Job Contest

The following is from XFINITY about a social media contest. With YouTV on the horizon in 2012, video productions like these might become just as much a part of blogging as these words your reading right now. I've personally turned down online video production for Acme Packing Company in the past, but I wonder how much longer I'll be holding out.

Have you ever wanted a shot at winning your dream job in sports social media? Here's your chance - XFINITY is launching a nationwide contest to find the next sports social media star to serve as the voice of XFINITY behind-the-scenes at the biggest sporting events nationwide in 2012.

The contest is called "Xfinity Presents: The Ultimate Sports Social Media Job" and runs from January 13th through March 25th. The winner will receive a one-year salary, all the electronics for the ultimate sports pad, and will have the opportunity to share thoughts, insights, and content with fans nationwide via the @XFINITYSports Twitter handle on a daily basis. This is truly a dream job opportunity for anyone looking to make a name for themselves in the world of sports and social media.

Here's how it works:

From January 13 - February 6, you can log on to Facebook.com/XFINITY and submit a :30-2:00 video on the Ultimate Sports Social Media Job contest tab that shows why your sports knowledge, social media expertise, personality, and passion for Comcast products and services makes you the perfect candidate for the job.

The top video submissions will be featured on the Ultimate Sports Social Media Job contest tab located on Facebook.com/XFINITY for fans to vote on from February 9-19. The five entrants who tally the most votes will advance to the final round of the contest where they will cover one of five premier sports events the weekend of March 8-11. Following that weekend, a panel of judges will evaluate each performance and announce the winner of the contest by March 25th!

Head today to Facebook.com/XFINITY and click on the Ultimate Sports Social Media Job contest tab for all the details, as well as contest rules. Enter soon, as February 6th is the deadline for video submissions! Thanks to Acme Packing Company partner XFINITY for bringing this opportunity to our readers.

So go check it out. And let me know if you want to be the anchor of APCTV someday.

A Plea For Sanity

And if that doesn't help, at least we still have the Bikini Girls. GO PACK GO!

Ladies and gentlemen, I know last night was difficult. Perhaps that word doesn't sum up how we feel after that crushing end to a marvelous season. But I beg of you: do not forget that this was, in fact, a marvelous season.

Calendar year 2011 saw the Packers lose once in twenty contests (that mattered) over 365 days. Starting with the January 2nd win against the Bears, our beloved team won nineteen football games. They won three playoff games on the road, including one more against our most bitter and respected rival, to earn the opportunity to play on the biggest stage. They then emerged victorious against another storied and respected franchise.

During this season, our quarterback shattered league and team records. The offense was nearly unstoppable for almost the entire season. Young players emerged and played well during important and meaningful opportunities. Do not forget the breathtaking manners in which our team earned victories - a goal line stand on opening night, dominating performances against division rivals, last-minute scoring drives, and a backup standing tall and delivering the final win of the year. These are memories which will last a lifetime.

Yes, our season is over a few weeks before we had hoped. Yes, the defense has many issues which need to be solved before next year begins. Yes, several of our players made mistakes over the course of our final contest. And yes, we are all reeling from a disappointing result in a game which we believed we could win. But do not let your intense negative emotions in the present detract from the positives of the past and the future of our team.

Soon, judgments will be made on the future of the franchise by people far more qualified than you or I. I am certain that none of us will agree with every decision that is made in the next several months, and let us discuss these decisions in a civil manner when the time is right. But now, in the disappointment that clouds the aftermath of defeat, let us not lay judgment on individuals for their performances on one day. Instead, let us take a step back; let us breathe before we react; let us mourn. And let us celebrate. For while we will not taste the ultimate victory this year, remember that taste from the last time, and know that it is well within our grasp for the next.

Do not be overcome by the moment, ladies and gentlemen, for we are the spirit of the Green Bay Packers.

Acme Packing Company Now On Google +

Maybe you already noticed this on the left sidebar here at Acme Packing Company, but I created a Google + page as another way to keep up with articles posted here. Click on the badge below to be directed to the new page.

Google-logo-plus_medium

As you may know, Google + is their version of Facebook. Since I already had a Google account for email, it was pretty easy to sign up for Google + and create the page. So if you're making the switch from Facebook to Google + or are now using both services, please put our page in your circle. Thanks.

Please Help Me Out With An SB Nation Survey

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND - JUNE 01: Voting takes place during the 61st FIFA Congress at Hallenstadion on June 1, 2011 in Zurich, Switzerland. (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)

SB Nation is conducting a survey and asking for feedback. There have been some changes around Acme Packing Company with different advertising campaigns, and if you like or dislike any of them, now is a good time to let us know.

The survey will help SB Nation improve your visit to our family of sites. It does take five minutes, so it's not lighting quick, but there are only a couple screens to click through.

The three SB Nation sites with the highest percentage of completed surveys will have a $500 donation to the charity of our choice made by SB Nation.

To take the survey, click here:

Thanks.

Brewers Host The Diamondbacks

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - JULY 4: Corey Hart #1 of the Milwaukee Brewers goes down swinging for the 3rd and final out as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Brewers during their game at Miller Park on July 4, 2011 in Milwaukee, WI. I'm a Green Bay Packers fan first, but I grew up a fan of Harvey's Wallbangers (I was stunned when they traded away Gorman Thomas) and I'll be watching the Brewers playoff game this afternoon.

Feel free to comment, but I'll be watching the open threads over at Brew Crew Ball.

And then the Badgers host the Cornhuskers tonight. What an awesome sports day in Wisconsin. More on that game at Bucky's 5th Quarter.

Technically Speaking With Tim Donaghy Appearance Tonight

I'll be on Technically Speaking tonight at 8:00 pm EST on CLNS Radio, to talk about the Green Bay Packers and free agency. Their telephone number is 347-215-7771 if you want to call in with any comments or questions. I should be on during the first half-hour of the show.

The show is hosted by former NBA ref Tim Donaghy and Mike "the Scotsman" Munger, and we may talk about some non-Packer related topics too.
