wcssstar33 made a number of good points in the comments and my response got so long I turned it into a regular post.
I'm thinking GM Ted Thompson stays put with the 16th pick of the 2nd round. He drafted Nick Collins with the 19th pick of the 2005 2nd round and Daryn Colledge with the 15th of the 2nd round in 2006. He seems to like the middle of the 2nd round.
I think the Packers are very interested in drafting someone for the secondary. The Packers have been talking with free agent Tory James (down at the bottom), but haven't signed him because he is the Plan B if they don't get someone early in the draft. There are so many talented cornerbacks and safeties available in the middle of the 1st round, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them is selected. I don't think it will be California CB Dameyion Hughes in the 2nd round because I've read he might be a better fit for a cover-2 scheme and the Packers play man-to-man.
I picked RB Marshawn Lynch in the SB Nation mock draft, but they could wait later to add a running back on day 2 if they want to give RBs Vernand Morency and Noah Herron a chance to start. I've read that the Packers are interested in Fresno State RB Dwayne Wright. He seems to be Morencey with better receiving skills. Maybe he is drafted in the 4th round to provide depth. If they can't trade up for RB Adrian Peterson or are not sold on Lynch, then they might as well wait until later on a RB because the guys available after those top two are uninspiring. There isn't a single back projected in the second round that I would be interested in at that spot.
Thompson seems to pay attention to performance at the combine. Last season, DE Mario Williams had a monster combine that led him to the top pick, but it also sparked some rumors that Williams wouldn't fall past Green Bay due to comments made by Thompson. Also LB A.J. Hawk had a great 40 time at the combine to cement himself in the top 5. Thompson had no concerns after meeting Hawk at the combine and didn't schedule a visit with him, unlike this season when rumors of a bad back and a possible criminal charge regarding Lynch have been enough that the Packers feel the need to bring him in for a visit.
I've only read Washington State's WR Jason Hill's name mentioned one other time, but I could see him drafted in the 2nd round. The Packers would be better off trading down in the 2nd round to draft him near the end of it. Thompson has drafted a WR in the 2nd round in the last two seasons. Hill has the (6'2", 210) size and speed that seems to be Mike McCarthy's preference.
