In 2006, Mike McCarthy opened his first mini-camp in May and invited all the rookies and veterans at the same time. Due to the large influx of young players over the last two seasons, McCarthy and Thompson decided they needed to give the rookies a little more time to adjust.
Just as the Packers did last season, they are bringing in the rookies immediately for a separate orientation. There are a few second years players too who appear to be all the guys that were on the practice squad at the end of last season. With two rookie QBs now on the roster, getting that playbook in their hands sooner than later is even more important this season.
