Players Report; B.J. Raji is Still Unsigned, Nick Barnett Still Out

  • NT B.J. Raji is still unsigned. As Rob Demovsky reported, they seem to be in a far apart because the two players drafted before and after Raji remain unsigned. Although WR Michael Crabtree went at No. 10, he might be asking for more than WR Darrius Heyward-Bey who just signed with Oakland after being the No. 7 pick. Raji might also want to see what OT Eugene Monroe, who was selected by Jacksonvillle at No. 8, signs for, but Monroe's agent is probably waiting for Raji to sign. Who's going to blink first? I would think there have been enough signings by now to determine what Raji should receive. Although normally I would like to see draft picks signed before training camp, I'm not worried in this case. As long as Raji is in shape, he shouldn't need that much time to learn the nose tackle/defensive end positions. Although Mike McCarthy believes he needs time to learn how to play at defensive end.
  • LB Nick Barnett and LB Brad Jones both failed their physicals. That's a real tough break for Jones, as the rookie 7th round pick just got hurt on Friday and is a longshot to win a roster spot. Hopefully it's not serious and he'll get a real chance. It isn't a big surprise that Barnett failed since he's coming back from major knee surgery. It's not a big deal, WR Donald Driver failed his physical in 2007 and still had a Pro Bowl season, but he didn't have to go on the PUP list. Plus, as Mike McCarthy mentioned, once Barnett's able to practice, he'll still have a lot to learn about the new 3-4 defense since he missed all of minicamp.
