Burnett to IR, Simpkins Is Active, and Johnny Williams Is On The Practice Squad

It's no surprise that the Green Bay Packers sent rookie 3rd round SS Morgan Burnett to the I.R. since it was announced Burnett tore his ACL and his season is over. With depth an issue at safety, it seemed likely they would sign a defensive back from the practice squad.

But instead they signed LB Maurice Simpkins to the active roster. And there's a chance he'll be playing on special teams on Sunday. The former Arena football player was all over the field during the final preseason game vs. the Chiefs.

The newest Packer is LB Johnny Williams. From what I've read at NFL Draft Scout, he's not the best prospect because he's a little too short at 6'1" and only ran a 4.74 40. And he wasn't someone that started immediately in college at Kentucky.
