The Packers Move Josh Bell to I.R and Sign Maurice Simpkins

Wednesday should be quiet for the Green Bay Packers since the team has no practice.

CB Josh Bell was on crutches Saturday night after the scrimmage and they weren't going to wait for him to return to battle for the 5th CB job. Since LB Clay Matthews is out for a couple weeks with a hamstring injury, and LB Cyril Obiozor was injured during practice on Tuesday, depth is an issue and they needed make a roster move to add a linebacker.

So they signed indoor football league LB Maurice Simpkins. I'm not sure if the former Coastal Carolina product has ever been in an NFL training camp (I would suspect that he has), but the Packers didn't have to go far to scout the IFL's Most Improved Player of 2010 since he most recently played for the Green Bay Blizzard. (I'm a little bummed to read that former Packers LB Brian Noble is no longer the owner of the Blizzard). Simpkins had a tryout with the Packers back in July. Despite his great 2010 season, and the makings of an Invincible type story, it looks like he's been signed just to fill out the 2nd team in practice. At 6'0", 236 lbs. he's the shortest, and tied for the lightest weight, LB on the roster.
