I'm sure few of his fans are reading this, but Vikings DE Jared Allen is having a very strong season. From the Star Tribune:
Yep, Jared Allen's impressive play this season has caught more than a few eyes nationally. With 12.5 sacks through eight games, Allen is on pace to break Michael Strahan's single-season sacks record. He's also a good bet to receive an invitation to Honolulu for the Pro Bowl. (Allen has made three previous Pro Bowl trips.)
His stat line from their last meeting, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, and 3 quarterback hits, was pretty awful. And Pro Football Focus confirmed that LT Marshal Newhouse had an awful game against Allen. What can be done this time?
Newhouse could play better. He was beaten just as bad on rushing plays as in pass protection. He missed practice earlier that week due to a personal matter, and there was even talk of pulling him during the game. He got better as the game went on. It won't be hard for him to play better on Monday night.
They could give him some help. TE Andrew Quarless was very good at chipping Allen when the Packers gave Newhouse some help. Previously, they gave Derek Sherrod help from a tight end during the Falcons game. Usually the Packers don't help their tackles, but I wouldn't be surprised if they give Newhouse some early help.
