Green Bay Packers LT Marshall Newhouse has faced DE Jared Allen twice this season, and played poorly each time. He isn't ready to take on the best pass rushers in the NFL. He also allowed a couple sacks to Broncos LB Von Miller back when Newhouse was starting at right tackle. Well there might be some relief on the horizon. From the Journal-Sentinel:

"I would have to say he's not going to make it this week, Detroit would be a push and the Giants would probably be realistic if he stays on schedule," McCarthy said.

On one hand, a 35 year old tackle coming off a significant injury is usually not an upgrade. But Clifton missed four games back in 2009 and Aaron Rodgers was sacked a lot while he was out. After his return, and the re-signing of RT Mark Tauscher to solidify the other tackle position, the pass protection greatly improved. Again from the Journal-Sentinel:

There isn't one specific culprit, Philbin said. Monday night's loose pocket was not all on Newhouse. And really, that's part of the problem. One common denominator hasn't been identified.

It can't help that on the left side of the line, Newhouse and T.J. Lang have combined for 18 career starts. Clifton's experience, as well as his ability, could certainly help the line overall.
