The NFL Combine Is Underway

Mike McCarthy might have just won a Super Bowl, but he still has to make his annual February trip to Indianapolis where he evaluate the incoming rookies and hold some press conferences. The players began to arrive on Wednesday, but the big stories aren't likely to break until Saturday. The players are arriving in four separate groups, depending on their position, as they work through various stages of the interview, measurement, and workout process. The news really begins on Saturday when the first workout results are announced.

As far as the Green Bay Packers are concerned, nearly every day is of interest. Except for Tuesday, when the defensive backs workout. I can't see the Packers using a high draft choice on the secondary with CB Sam Shields wrapping up an outstanding rookie year, and former 3rd round S Morgan Burnett set to return in 2011.

And just as I write that, I read Kareem Copeland of the Press-Gazette who says the Packers needs lie at outside linebacker and cornerback. Maybe that's the problem with draft analysis this year. Without any a glaring needs, it's hard to tell which position the Packers will target.
