Slipping between the cracks of the press release announcing that the Green Bay Packers had released LB A.J. Hawk, was the release of two other players.
TE Donald Lee. His breakout season was 2007, but he's been losing snaps because of infective play and TE Jermichael Finley emergence. Probably the final blow to his career with the Packers was the emergence of TE Tom Crabtree. He'd lost more and more playing time as the 2010 went on, and it didn't make sense to pay over $2 million in 2011 for their fourth string tight end.
S Derrick Martin. After a loss at the Metrodome in 2009 exposed his struggles in pass coverage, the Packers never gave an indication that they were going to give him another shot on defense. He finished that season, and followed it up in 2010, with a growing reputation as a special teams ace. However the kick coverage was never outstanding when Martin was able to play.
Both players were going to have a roster fight on their hands in 2011 because they have several more draft picks on the way and both players were buried on the depth chart.
