There won't be any trades happening until a new labor agreement is reached, but in the meantime there has been some speculation that the Vikings could trade for Broncos QB Kyle Orton. Here's the article at Twin Cities that started it.
Over at Daily Norseman, Orton's stats are 'pretty darn good" but he disagreed that QB Joe Webb is "nowhere close to being an effective starter." While Webb is an impressive athlete, he wasn't too impressive throwing the football. Here are his 2010 stats.
Orton is would be an upgrade for 2011, but his 2010 stats might be his ceiling. Over at Mile High Report, they know Orton's on the trading block and they'd be happy to get a 3rd or 4th round pick for him.
It's a tough choice for the Vikings, especially since they don't have a 3rd round pick thanks to the WR Randy Moss fiasco. Do they go with a short term fix in Orton? Or do they have Webb and a new draft choice compete next season? When in doubt, teams have to try and win now in the NFL. Either way, the Vikings aren't going to have a better quarterback than the Packers in the foreseeable future.
