Top 10 Draft Busts Since 1980 - Tony Mandarich

New, comments

Green Bay Packers Bust #1: Michigan State OL Tony Mandarich. Drafted No. 2 overall in 1989.

As if you had any doubt?

If you have the stomach for it, this ESPN article from a couple years ago has all the details. Everything you could dream of in a high profile draft pick becoming a spectacular bust. High selection, huge ego, over paid, bad attitude, drugs, a total fraud, injuries, etc. He should be on the short list in any discussion of the worst draft pick ever, and I can't even think of someone off the top of my head that should be ranked ahead of him.

And for bonus points, he was selected high in a loaded draft. Of the top five picks in the 1989 draft, he's the only one not in the Hall of Fame.
