Preseason Preview: Green Bay Packers at Colts

It's time to watch for players making plays for the Green Bay Packers. They'll have some flexibility in making some roster decisions (for example, maybe they'll keep five tight ends if they only have two fullbacks) so players aren't just playing against the other guys at their position. They're competing against players at other positions too.

Mike McCarthy said the starters will play the first quarter and a half, but he may be looking for just one well played drive. It'll also give LG T.J. Lang some more time with the first team offense now that he's officially won the starting job ahead of LT Derek Sherrod.

Jason Wilde lists 10 players who will not or may not play. It's hard to earn a roster spot if you can't stay healthy, which is a tough break for those players. Two likely starters won't play (LB Frank Zombo and DE Mike Neal) and WR Greg Jennings may not play after suffering a bruised knee, but those three players are guaranteed to stay with the team. The Colts come into the game with 11 injuries, and the only player certain not to play is Peyton Manning.

One Colt who is a healthy scratch is new backup QB Kerry Collins, who might not have even practiced yet with the team. Expect to see a lot of QB Curtis Painter, who's been been bad this preseason and probably won't even make the team with Collins on the roster.

As is usual during the preseason, it's time to get a little work in while staying healthy. Unfortunately for a lot of players on both teams, they'll have to work very hard during this game just to prove that they belong in the NFL.
